The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey

I Believe the Zombie Children Are Our Future

March 21, 2017 by Gracey the Giant 2 Comments

Or, at the very least, they are the future in M.R. Carey’s book, The Girl With All the Gifts. The book is about Melanie, zombie child extraordinaire. She’s being held, along with several other (albeit less extraordinary) zombie children, at a research facility in England.  At the facility, they attend classes, eat grubs and occasionally get dissected, all in the name of science.  Dr. Caldwell does the dissecting, and Helen Justineau does the teaching. Below is a song I “wrote” about their adventures (please to […]

Titles, shmitels. He’s rich.

March 17, 2017 by ingres77 6 Comments

Stephen King is the undisputed master of horror. He’s written about everything from rabid dogs to aliens, to plagues that wipe out most of humanity; he’s covered ghosts, vampires, serial killers, and the visceral terror of evil manifested as a clown. Hell, he’s even covered machines coming to life with murderous intent. He’s done it all. But it took until 2006 for him to cover zombies? Weird. Especially considering that the real villain here doesn’t seem to be the zombified denizens of New England, but […]

Round 2 of me reading book 2

December 6, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ok, here goes round 2 of me reading book 2.  I did finish it this time!  It wasn’t that long, so I’m not sure what exciting thing was happening in my life 5 years ago that I couldn’t finish it.  I guess I just wasn’t reading books to raise money for cancer back then.  Silly me! So again, there are some editing mistakes, and the writing is a little clunky.  I looked this book up on Goodreads, and man do people have things to say […]

Book 1 of the trilogy that I read book 3 of

December 6, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

OK, so Amazon doesn’t seem to have just book 1 of this trilogy as an option, so my link above is to the whole trilogy.  As I said in my Book 3 review, I already read book 1 a while ago, and then got stalled on book 2, and never made it to book 3.  So… I just read book 1 again.  I remember liking it, and I liked it again.  You have to take some things into consideration to enjoy the book though.  I […]

Book 3 of a trilogy that I don’t think I finished book 2 of?

November 28, 2016 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So for some reason, I’m really into all Alice in Wonderland stories.  Alice in Deadland also has zombies (a virus causes “The Rising”), so for me that’s a win-win.  I think I downloaded this Kindle book like five years ago.  I read all of book 1, and loved it.  I’m pretty sure I’m going to read it again to finish out my Cannonball this year.  The problem was book 2.  I think it stalled me, so I never got to book 3 (this one).  Conveniently, […]

We’ve got five years, my brain hurts a lot.

October 12, 2016 by Bea Pants 2 Comments

I love post apocalypse fiction. Give me a breakdown of society and roving bands of raiders and I am a happy girl. There are certain standouts in the genre though: The Stand, World War Z (the book, not that godawful movie) and now, The Girl With All the Gifts. Zombie apocalypse fiction has flooded what used to be a niche market in recent years with the popularity of The Walking Dead. M.R. Carey manages to contribute a unique offering to a style that can […]
