Not that bad until the end

December 10, 2017 by crystalclear Leave a Comment

Cinderella meets zombies.  There’s your synopsis in three words.  But for the most part, it’s a lot more than that. Exley doesn’t just stick zombies in your stereotypical Cinderella story.  She explains what the characters know about how the zombies (or vermin, or turned) came to be.  The story takes place in England during the aftermath of World War I.  While the shell shocked men are coming home from war, a devastating bout of ‘influenza’ sweeps the country, killing millions.  Only they don’t stay dead. […]

I wanted to be more into it

October 17, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

So this is book 5 in the Omega Days series.  I read the first four and loved them.  I think maybe if I had read this right after I finished book 4, I would’ve been more into it.  I kinda forgot about where everyone was in the world, and I kinda lost my connection to the characters.  I didn’t have the opportunity to read it right after I finished book 4 though, because it wasn’t out yet! Anyway… I feel like every single one of […]

It’s about ethics in zombie journalism!

September 12, 2017 by ingres77 1 Comment

Zombies! So, I don’t have much luck with zombies. Stephen King’s Cell was pretty good, and Max Brooks’s zombie books are golden, but everything else is…..well, not worth talking about. Two things prompted me to give this one a go: I will always give zombies a go, because I always want those stories to be good (even though they rarely are), and Mira Grant is the pseudonym of Seanan McGuire, a fairly well-liked author in these parts whom I’ve never read. But I came away […]

Well, THAT was Totally Unexpected

“To call the scene a disaster does it a terrific disservice. The final death toll was never fully calculated, for heaven only knew how many bodies might lie wedged in the rubble. And alas, there was no time for excavation.” – Hale Quarter

Book 2 in Newsflesh

April 7, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ok so this is book 2 for the Newsflesh trilogy.  I loooved book 1.  Book 2 was kind of a chore.  I listened to it on my library’s app.  Sometimes I feel like an audiobook swims or sinks based on the voice talent.  I know that’s not a revolutionary opinion, but hear me out.  I know The Girl with All the Gifts was a freaking awesome book.  Listening to Finty Williams read it made it nearly magical.  I loved it so hard.  I don’t think […]

Back to ZOMBIES! Yay!!

March 27, 2017 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

I loved this book. I really did. I just spent the last two and a half hours finishing it, because I couldn’t stop. I loved the characters. I loved the point of view. I loved the idea of the virus and where it came from. Ok, enough praise. If you’ve ever read Mira Grant and liked her, I suspect this book is for you. I started out last year with her Parasitology trilogy. I liked them a lot, and I kept hearing about the Newsflesh […]
