If You Throw Away the First 3/4ths, You Might Have an Okay Book Left

September 25, 2015 by Quorren 1 Comment

I’ll never admit that I’m a bright person; it took me until half way through the second book in this series to realize it was just Star Wars, but with dragons instead of the Force and lightsabers.  Which probably explains why I still love the first book, Eragon.  (See that?  That’s “dragon”, but with one letter changed.  That’s the level of cleverness we are working with here.) So this is the last book in the series, so we know Not Luke Skywalker is going to […]

Not Everything in the Teen Paranormal Romance Section is a Lost Cause

Have you started the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy?  No?  Then don’t read this, because it will be Spoiler City as this is the last book in the series.  (Although I wouldn’t be surprised if this world of angels and chimera and Karou makes a reappearance at some point, considering how this one ended.) Karou is leading the chimera army, or what’s left of it, through deception.  A sacrifice from the previous book let her with a puppet regime, with her at the strings. […]

A Quick Must Read

Definitely the cutest book I’ve read this year. I had a smile on my face throughout the entirety of it. Run, don’t walk, to your local library or bookstore to read it. I really think it’d be enjoyable to graphic novel newbies as well as readers more versed in the genre. Nimona joins up as the sidekick to Lord Ballister Blackheart, a villain with a vendetta against the kingdom’s current hero, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin. Nimona is a complete joy to watch as she shapeshifts her […]

The problem with a really excellent liar is that you have to just assume they are always lying

If people could murder you with a touch, you’d probably want them to wear gloves too

This is the second book in a trilogy, and as such not the best place to start. This review will contain some spoilers for book one, because it’s impossible to write about this book without talking about things that were revealed in the first one. So if you are new to these Holly Black books, go find White Cat – that’s where to begin the trilogy. Cassel Sharpe lives in a world where a select percentage of the population have certain gifts. People who, if […]

I would watch this on TV

3.5 stars Margaret “Maggie” Silver learned to pick her first lock when she was barely past the toddler stage, which is unsurprising since both her parents and all their friends are spies. Maggie’s father can tell her she’s grounded in more than twenty languages, but she’s never actually gone to school and rarely interacted with someone her own age. So when the Silver’s current mission requires her to go to a fancy prep school in Manhattan, Maggie is actually more out of her depth than […]
