But I can tell you that it involves scary monsters with wings, superstition, and peer pressure. You can read my full review here.

Holding out for a hero…

November 4, 2015 by PattyKates 8 Comments

Katie: Y’all, I want to give a shout out today to Patty for raising her Girl right. Being the great parent she is, Patty has gotten Girl started down the Judy Blume path. Being the great kid she is, Girl has some thoughts and feelings she’d like to share. Patty: Because PattyKates wasn’t enough of a departure, we’ve decided to do a review à trois with my daughter – who henceforth shall be referred to as Girl – being very careful to maintain a level […]

“Things had changed and would continue to change until there was room for everyone to have a normal life…”

November 3, 2015 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

This is the sequel to Landry Park, which is a dystopian tale of nuclear power, class warfare, and debutante balls. The story was about Madeline Landry trying to figure out who attacked her friend. She learns about the Rootless people, the lower class who change the nuclear reactors in the manor houses. There are a lot of revelations being revealed. In the sequel, Madeline Landry is back to solve another mystery. This time…things get deadly. The heirs of the Gentry’s elite are being killed. Madeline […]

“I think it’s a good bet that you never know who is going to tear the tits off a cow on any given day…”

First of all, that quote is my new life motto. Second, Mindy McGinnis has written another great YA novel. This one is far different from the survivalist Not a Drop to Drink. It’s set in 1890 at an insane asylum in Boston. Grace was committed by her father for getting pregnant. She doesn’t speak or react at all to the cruel nurse and awful treatments. Her desire is to have the baby and just fade away. Even after being thrown in the damp, dirty cellar […]

“The mistake of every young person is to think they’re the only ones who see darkness and hardship in the world…”

There are blue lights everywhere, crazy zombie deer are running around, and the police have been possessed. It looks like a job for the indie kids, Satchel, Dylan, and Finn (A different Finn from the one who died at the beginning). It’s part of the book, but it’s not what the book is about. Mike, his sister Mel, and their friends Jared and Henna are fairly normal (Aside from little issues like OCD, anorexia, being 1/4 god). They aren’t the Chosen ones who have to […]

Will Meh. Will Meh.

This book was fine. It was alright, mildly entertaining, but not a book I would actually own or buy for anyone else. The parts I like the best were also the least realistic and didn’t give cause for investment in the characters. The parts I hated were the parts that read absolutely true to what it’s like being a teenager; depression, self-doubt and awkward loves. I’m really struggling to say anything else about it. I will say that it’s a great vacation read in that […]
