That is essentially, exactly the way it happened

February 24, 2016 by baxlala 13 Comments

I read this book for two reasons: 1) Ashley (narfna) recommended it and 2) the main characters are obsessed with The X-Files, an obsession I, too, shared when I was their age. Rory and Lula are best friends who live in a small Southern town and have much in common, but what they really bond over is The X-Files. Both have been abandoned by at least one parent (Lula by both, Rory by his father), though Lula lives with her loving grandparents while Rory is […]

All the Most Annoying Parts

I am a weirdo who watches the films first if there’s a film of a book. Because I’m either going to want to watch it anyway if I like the book, or someone is going to “make me” watch it. By make me, I of course mean enthusiastically encourage me enough that I feel guilty if I don’t and/or adds it to the our Netflix queue so that I watch out of desire for snuggles. Also, if I read the book first, there’s little chance […]

Another way to go back to Stars Hollow

February 4, 2016 by Polyesque Leave a Comment

Did you know Netflix and DVDs are not the only way to get a Gilmore Girls fix? That’s right…there are BOOKS. Now, before you get too excited, there aren’t many (four, to be exact), they focus on the first/second seasons before the show had really found its legs, and as such, they have nothing to do with the reboot that got GG fans all in a tizzy and has officially started shooting! Anyhoo, I’ve been a diehard Gilmore Girls fan for years now and don’t […]

Curiosity Should’ve Killed The Cat… Tris

January 26, 2016 by Alix 7 Comments

The main theme to Divergent is that there are two sides to every coin. Or, in this case, every faction. Humanity has been divided into five factions: Abnegation (selflessness), Amnity (kindness), Candor (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), and Erudite (knowledge). Each believed, on inception, that theirs was the way to prevent future war, and at age 16 the children of this world must choose which they believe. Each faction has their own headquarters and initiation, and if you choose a faction that is not the one you […]

Confessions of a teen assassin

January 25, 2016 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

The Assassin’s Blade is a collection of 5 prequel novellas about the year in Celaena Sardothian’s life that took her from the King of the Assassin’s heir apparent to a prisoner in a salt mine. If you want a better, more comprehensive, review (with gifs!) of each novella, please read kdm’s review. One of the things I liked best about Celaena in this collection was how teenagery she was. I liked that Maas allowed Celaena to be unlikeable, slappable and a pain in the ass […]
