May 4, 2016 by Andrea Krieter Leave a Comment

Summary: Theo Cartwright is an amazing dancer, and she has secrets. When her childhood best friend is found after being abducted for four years, she doesn’t know if she should tell. One of her secrets involves her ex-boyfriend, and that’s who they think kidnapped Donovan. Her other secret is that she has a crush on Hosea Roth, but he already has a girlfriend. Am I Possessed by an Alien Right Now or Not?

May 4, 2016 by Andrea Krieter Leave a Comment

Rating:4.0/5 Summary: When something goes majorly wrong on the Icarus spacecraft, rich heiress Lilac LaRoux and newly decorated General Tarver Merendsen, become trapped in a space pod. It’s only thanks to Lilac’s familiarity and mechanical skill that they get their pod to launch and narrowly evade death. After crash landing on a seemly empty, but terraformed planet, they begin their search for the ship and inhabitants of the planet. Strange visions accost the pair and they believe they’re going crazy, but maybe there’s something else […]

“Whole lot easier staying in and writing yourself brave instead of going out and BEING brave, is all I’m saying…”

Scarlett Epstein is about a smart, sarcastic girl whose social life is mostly writing fanfics for the TV show Lycanthrope High. When the show is cancelled, her group of fans has to find a new subject. Scarlett decides to write new fics based on kids at her school, namely her feelings about her childhood friend Gideon who seems to be turning into a popular jerk. I really liked Scarlett and her snarkiness and she’s easy to relate to, though sometimes frustrating. It’s a really fun […]

A dash of western, a few pinches of fantasy, toss in a few cannibals, and stir till frothy

April 13, 2016 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

Revenge & the Wild is set in Rogue City, a town filled with magic and magical creatures. Humans live alongside vampires, elves, leprechauns, and more. They don’t always get along, but they have a wary peace. The native people cast a spell to protect the humans, but the spell has been fading. Worse, if magic dies so do the magical creatures. Westie’s father Nigel created a machine to generate magic from gold. In order to get gold, he needs an investor. The Fairfields, a family […]

Indiana Jones Meets the Babysitters Club

April 11, 2016 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

I’m not a huge consumer of graphic novels, but I enjoyed Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona, so I decided to check out her series Lumberjanes (a co-creation with several others). I also couldn’t pass up something in which volume 1 is titled “Beware the Kitten Holy”. I was simultaneously disappointed and relieved that in the end this turns out to be less than literal. In the opening sequence the heroines encounter some wolves; as they are getting their tails kicked, one of the wolves mutters “beware the kitten holy”. By […]

Nothing Like Young Love With Your Seal Boyfriend

March 31, 2016 by Lisa Bee 4 Comments

I’m just going to start this off by telling you that if you love beautiful, soft animation and art, you should definitely see the movie The Song of the Sea. It’s adorable and sweet, and has some of the most stunning background artistry I’ve ever seen. But now you may be wondering what that has to do with this book I’m about to review? Well, I was just reminded of the movie because both the film, and C.B. Lee’s Seven Tears at High Tide focus […]
