Everyone Just LOVED Each Other

This was my first experience with YA non-fiction, and while this was incredibly well researched, interesting, and at times even heartbreaking, I found myself slightly annoyed at the word choice for much of this book. “Charles and Emma” chronicles an exceptionally detailed account of Charles and Emma Darwin’s life both professionally and familial from right before their wedding in 1839 to Emma’s death in 1896. It’s beautifully researched, with quotations from articles, diaries, personal letters, and an abundance of primary documentation. But the language….As usual, […]

4,100 pages of perpetual youth.

July 16, 2016 by ingres77 16 Comments

I read these books last month, but wanted to save them to celebrate my Cannonball. When I was a teenager, I thought I read a lot. But I don’t think I ever read 40 books in a year before. Last year, reading mostly historical biographies, I only made it to 29 (my goal was 12, though). So I didn’t expect to really be able to make it this year. So I’m pleasantly surprised that I was able to make it in approximately six months. So, […]

Mermaids the Eat People & are Kind of Bitchy

July 14, 2016 by Andrea Krieter Leave a Comment

Rating: 3/5 Summary: When three beautiful girls come to the small town of Capri, Gemma and her sister are suspicious. The girls are eerily beautiful and are completely pretentious. They don’t speak to anyone, but they want to speak to Gemma. Gemma is a swimmer and she goes out for nightly swims in the bay by her house. One night, the girls entrance her to join them and her life is never the same. This book had a lot of potential. It wasn’t bad per […]
