A Kissing Book!

February 17, 2016 by ModernLove 1 Comment

Look, any book that’s described as “Nick and Norah’s Infinate Playlist meets Easy A…” is a book I’m going to have to read. I think what made me take notice was Steph Perkins (an amazing YA author in her own right) tweeting about it, and my needing something light and fluffy to read. I’ve been feeling in a reading rut lately, starting and stopping a few books because I just can’t get into the right headspace. Well, Kissing Ted Callahan has cleared that up, and this […]

A Continuing Royal Saga/Magic, Hearts, and Paper Dogs

January 20, 2016 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

Two reviews for the price of one! The Selection is one of those series I’m going to have to read to completion. The fifth (and I believe final) book is out in the spring, so in anticipation, and because I needed something light and fluffy to read, I finally picked up The Heir, the fourth book in this royal saga. About 20 years have passed since Maxon’s Selection was completed, and people ain’t happy. The caste system is gone, but there are still riots and people […]

Never Read Books About Plagues When You’re Sick

January 11, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

Don’t expect me to keep up this reading pace, I’m going to drop back soon, for sure. I decided not to grade anything and just read in bed, on the couch or wherever my kids would let me be sick and “semi-participate” in life while coughing, sneezing, and snorting.  So this is book four in the Gone series and while I’m enjoying reading these books, I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone if you’re having a bad go of things lately–you might smile for a second […]

Sh*t Just Got Real

January 9, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

Where I was feeling that perhaps after book two of this series I was going to let it go, I couldn’t without finding out what happens to the kids trapped in the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone). I’m glad that I didn’t stop reading the series. This book surpassed book two by a mile…but man, did it get dark. I literally cannot talk about nearly any aspect of the plot without spoiling things from books one and two…I’ve tried three times to write this review, […]

The Girl in the Plastic Bubble

January 8, 2016 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

Welcome to another edition of “Books I keep seeing and thinking I should read, and then finally do”! This one was a Christmas gift from my husband (who was originally going to get me Adele tickets, but lol yeah right, so instead got me books and Captain Marvel and Deadpool shirts. He’s a keeper.) and I pretty much devoured it. Everything, Everything is a fairly easy read and really does go quick. A lot of that is thanks to it’s format, which includes e-mails, IMs, and […]

And Poof! They Were Gone

January 4, 2016 by Melina 2 Comments

Book Bub loves to sell dystopian fiction at a discount price and therefore, I read a lot of dystopian literature when I’m too lazy to go to the library and/or hack into my mom’s Kindle account (note: I’m not actually hacking, she gives me permission, but it feels cooler when I say the word hack).  This book caught my attention though because Stephen King mentioned this series on twitter several times (and not in a “the publishing company gave me money for this blurb kind […]
