I keep finding new books to read and then review!

Table Titans Club by Scott Kurtz

December 11, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I like a good graphic novel. I like ones that capture relatable subjects and can be humorous. And of course, I like serious ones too, but I was in the mood for something that was funny. And Table Titans Club (I am assuming it is the first in a series, since how it ended) looked funny. Scott Kurtz did not disappoint.  The story of three friends (Alan, Darius and Andrew) who ask the new girl Val (though reluctantly on Alan’s part), and the dismay of their sort-of friend Kate, to […]

I found this one on a list of unusual crime novels. It definitely fits the bill. I think this book is kind of tricksy. It’s billed as a crime novel, and it is. Eva, the protagonist, works for folks in the London underground and there is a crime at the center of the story. But really, this is a character study about a low class English woman who just wants to wrestle and live her life the best way she can. It’s as much about […]

“History is booooooring”

November 12, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

This series by Steve Sheinkin has its moments. They might not be for the adult reader, but the child reader (about ages 7 to 9) will get a kick out of our heroes Abby and Doc time-traveling through history. In history class, Abby and Doc are reading about Abraham Lincoln. But something is not right. All he is doing is sitting, reading the newspaper, playing handball in the alley near his home and where is that famous beard? How did this happen? Historical figures have […]
