Wizard and Glass – Stephen King (1997)

Wizard and Glass by Stephen King

January 25, 2021 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

Another reread from Stephen King’s The Dark Tower series. I think this is the best of the whole series (which means it’s a bit of a shame getting to it, knowing it marks the height as far as I am concerned. It will be interested if the pull I felt to complete the narrative initially is still here, now I’ve gotten this far). More than anything, this book delivers on the promise of the Gunslinger in a way that none of the others do. That […]

Follow the Path of the Beam

Wizard and Glass by Stephen King

So the main reason why this gets four stars is that it is too freaking long. I love the King, but this needed to either be edited back, or broken out into two parts. The other reason why I gave this four stars is that the stupid speaking demon thing pops up again and yes I still loathe that whole thing and what it means for our Susannah Dean. I think the ka-tet grew stronger together in this story and you can see now for […]

Once upon a time, I read Wizard and Glass for the very first time, and thought that there could never be a greater book in the world. I was swept up in the world of Mejis and horses and Roland and Susan and the Big Coffin Hunters. I didn’t mind being apart from Eddie and Jake and Susannah (and Oy!) for such a long time, because this story was EPIC!  It was romantic and tragic and IMPORTANT to the plot of the overall series. I […]

I liked it, but I kept wanting to get back to the main story.

Well, I failed at my goal of finishing this series before the movie came out on August 15th*. Perhaps Ashley of past years could have finished the remaining three books in the next thirteen days (as of actually finishing the book), but Present Ashley is certainly not capable of it. *Will not now be seeing movie. Very upset at genius casting of Idris Elba entirely wasted. I was still going to give it a chance until I read they’d made Jake the protagonist and dumbed […]
