Parts of two series

Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren

Dark Wild Nights by Christina Lauren

Skin by Dale Mayer

The Wild Seasons series by Christina Lauren is a 4-book series. I’m reviewing the first three, and won’t likely be reading on to the fourth. This in no way means that the first three aren’t great. Sweet Filthy Boy is the first in the series. Three childhood friends have just graduated college and take a weekend in Las Vegas to celebrate. Mia is the main protagonist of this installment. She has a distant relationship with her parents and is dreading moving to Boston in […]

The cream of the crop

April 11, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 2 Comments

Guys. GUYS. I’m pretty sure Christina Lauren, like, really listens and responds to feedback. This book would have been written too early to claim a direct line of insight from the epic post on slut shaming in romance, but I feel like the cultural tides that made way for that post influence Christina Lauren very much. 1) Luke, the male hero, out-and-out declares himself a feminist. 2) In direct contrast to almost every other book featuring a recovering rake, this one goes out of its […]

“Life is built of these little horrible moments and the giant expanses of awesome in between.”

I needed a fluffy audiobook, and Sweet Filthy Boy fit the bill. If you read melanir’s review of book two in the series, Dirty Rowdy Thing, you know what I mean. I had downloaded this one when it was on sale over at Audible, which was great because almost two weeks ago I had some pretty nasty oral surgery and was hopped up on pain meds for over a week. I had four days immediately following the procedure to recuperate and do nothing. My favorite […]

Wicked Sexy Liar: 5 stars Not Joe’s Not-So-Short Story: 3 stars First of all, I have to once again thank the wonderful Mrs. Julien for getting me the Target special edition paperback of this book and sending it to me with a veritable feast of Junior Mints, just so I could get to read Not-Joe’s story, which wasn’t included in the e-book version of the book. The Junior Mints were a lovely bonus, and I now have to be very strong and not gorge myself […]

He’s Not Actually a Liar – A Contemporary Romance

February 22, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 4 Comments

Finally, a Christina Lauren couple that doesn’t scream the house down in the throes of passion. Quiet people need love, too. In the first three books of the new adult romance Wild Seasons series, each of a trio of close friends made impulsive marriages on a graduation trip to Las Vegas. The aftermath of each of these choices was the basis for Mia, Harlow, and Lola’s novels. Book four brings Lola’s surfer roommate, London, to the fore and pairs her with Mia’s ex-boyfriend, Luke. I […]

Two great books and one where I could not.

January 27, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 6 Comments

The Wild Seasons series is centered around a group of lifelong friends and their post-college graduation trip to Vegas, where they end up drunkenly married to a matched group of men. The individual books dive into the aftermath of these hasty weddings and untangle the authenticity of the pairs’ feelings for each other. The books all follow the same obvious pattern: 1) Couple gets together. Couple has The Best Sex In The World. 2) Couple has blow-out argument and ambiguously break up. Female buddies get […]
