Welcome to the Treaty Stay at Gertrude Hunt

Sweep with Me by Ilona Andrews

February 23, 2020 by Malin Leave a Comment

Spoiler warning! This is the fifth story in the Innkeeper Chronicles series, and this review may contain spoilers for previous installments. If you want to start at the beginning, Clean Sweep is the first book. For Innkeepers, the biggest and most sacred holiday of the year is the Treaty Stay, which commemorates the ancient treaty between the first Inns, their intergalactic guests, and the agreement to keep humans safe and completely unaware of the presence of alien visits to Earth. During a Treaty Stay, Inns have to open the doors […]

Full Throttle – Another good short story collection from the Kings

Full Throttle by Joe Hill

January 11, 2020 by MarkAbaddon 1 Comment

I have enormous respect for authors who step out of their comfort zone to try new things in their writing style. Joe Hill has always done that and this collection is no different. Most of the stories work but unfortunately some fell flat to me. When one takes chances, that is invariably a result, but as a reader I respect the effort and it makes me want to read more of that author going forward. There are two stories Joe wrote with his Dad, Stephen […]

Immortal Enemies to Fated Lovers

The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole

December 30, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I’m still working my way through Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. I’ve read her several of her books for previous Cannonball Read challenges. The author finds a way to pair up the most interesting supernatural creatures. Many of her books deal with fated mates, but often the alpha male attempts to use fate as an excuse to skip courtship. The female rarely finds this acceptable and a sexy and dangerous chase typically ensues. For CBR11, I decided to start at the very beginning with […]

Hungry like the wolf

Wolfsong by T.J. Klune

December 14, 2019 by Malin 3 Comments

Official book description: Ox was twelve when his daddy taught him a very valuable lesson. He said that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then he left. Ox was sixteen when he met the boy on the road. The little boy who talked and talked and talked. Ox found out later the little boy hadn’t spoken in almost two years before that day, and that the little boy belonged to a family who had moved into the house at the end […]

Werewolves live among us

Red Moon by Benjamin Percy

May 21, 2019 by kfishgirl Leave a Comment

Ugh.  OK.  This one was a little rough.  It was such a good concept, but it was sooooo slow.  I think the audiobook was about 20-21 hours.  It probably could’ve been 10 and it would’ve been better. The premise is that some people in the world are werewolves.  They were “infected” with a prion originated in wolves.  I nerdily enjoyed the backstory of the disease.  I could’ve listened to more about that! It starts out strong too.  Patrick Gamble is on a plane flying to […]

I read this to spare you all. You’re welcome. Unless you like bad paranormal romance.

Bitten by Kelly Armstrong

April 1, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

I decided to request Bitten from the local library because I’d seen it on a list of good fantasy series. I’m so very glad I did that. Got it from the library that is. This book is the epitome of everything that people don’t like about paranormal romance. I’m almost tempted to throw it in the river and save everyone else who may check it out the experience; I won’t because that’s destruction of library property (and therefore bad on principle) and the book’s not […]
