“I feel my sexiness is a thing that creeps up on you, like mold on a loaf of corner-store bread you thought you’d get three more days out of.”

We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. by Samantha Irby

I enjoyed We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. while listening to it, but it’s been a couple of months since I finished it now, and it hasn’t really stuck with me, so I’m rating this one three stars. The only story that I remember with any clarity was the one about her cat, which I was always going to remember because it was about a cat, but also because her cat was SOMETHING ELSE. And also because the way she writes about her cat was very […]

We Are Never Meeting in Real Life by Samantha Irby

#CBR11 Bingo: The Collection (Could also work for True Story, Cannonballer Says, Own Voices and Rainbow Flag) Official book description: Sometimes you just have to laugh, even when life is a dumpster fire. With We Are Never Meeting in Real Life., “bitches gotta eat” blogger and comedian Samantha Irby turns the serio-comic essay into an art form. Whether talking about how her difficult childhood has led to a problem in making “adult” budgets, explaining why she should be the new Bachelorette–she’s “35-ish, but could easily […]

Samantha keeps it REAL

January 20, 2018 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

I have been a fan of Samantha Irby’s writing for quite awhile from her blog (bitches gotta eat). I’m also a member of her book lovers Facebook community, Bitches gotta read. Thus, I was already poised to like We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. I adore her humor. And yet, this book exceeded my expectations! Her collection of essays allows Irby to bare her soul with her trademark matter-of-fact no fluff tone. I read the audiobook that she narrates herself, which I highly recommend! Hearing her own […]

Gayer than I was expecting and the cat dies

July 20, 2017 by Caitlin_D 1 Comment

I didn’t know who Samantha Irby was prior to Goodreads suggesting We’re Never Meeting in Real Life but she appears to be a writer who has a funny, popular blog (bitchesgottaeat- great name). Life was not easy for Samantha growing up. Her mother had MS and died when Sam was a teenager; her father was largely absent and died shortly after her mother passed away. She also has Chron’s disease and IBS. Right now I am sporadically trying to be vegan, because I love animals and being a […]
