The heart wants what it wants

February 28, 2016 by Mikki Blu 2 Comments

This is the third book in the Daring Hearts series, and for a change I actually have read the first two books in the series.   The summary on Amazon is as follows: For most her life, Lady Talia Hall has been dreaming of the day James Forester will take her in his arms and kiss her with unrestrained passion. Tired of waiting, Talia decides to take drastic measures to make James see her as more than his best friend’s little sister. But her bold plan […]

If you have sex, you will get pregnant and you will die

February 5, 2016 by expandingbookshelf 4 Comments

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a Victorian-era woman who gets her hoe on will get her divine comeuppance.  19th century literature is like an 80s horror movie-you have sex, you die. It doesn’t matter if the woman is cheating on her husband, or straight-up raped by her boss-extramarital hanky-panky must be punished. I decide to combine my reviews of Madame Bovary and Tess of D’Urbervilles, rather than spending two reviews covering a lot of the same ground. *spoilers for some really old books* […]

Oh Courtney…

December 22, 2015 by Malin 5 Comments

Lady Judith Worth lost everything when her father and eldest brother, Anthony, was convicted on treason. Her father committed suicide in prison, her brother was sentenced to deportation to Australia. Due to complications during the journey, Anthony never arrived at his destination, and is presumed dead. Since losing their wealth and their privileges, Judith has been the sole breadwinner for two of her younger half-siblings; the spoiled, socially challenged and extremely cat obsessed Theresa and her youngest brother Benedict, who she’s finally saved up enough […]

A historical romance with a reluctant wallflower and an idealistic doctor

December 20, 2015 by Malin 2 Comments

Lady Clare Westmore is pretty certain that she’s well on her way of securing the affection of Mr. Charles Alban, the next Duke of Harrington. Every sign seems to suggest that with just a bit more time with him, he will propose marriage by the end of the season. When she manages to sprain her ankle violently, she still insists on going to the evening’s ball, as passing up a chance to dance with Mr. Alban is unthinkable. However, the pain is such that she […]

More like When the Duke was a Terrible Bore. The heroine is good though.

November 28, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

This review was written with the help of Mrs. Julien’s romance review template ™. When the Duke was Wicked is a romance of the “friends to lovers” variety. The hero and heroine have known each other since they were young, as their families are very close. The heroine and the hero’s younger sisters are BFFs. The hero grieves for his dead wife and had determined that he will never love another. The heroine believes she can get the hero to re-join polite society by asking […]

A historical romance with masks

November 27, 2015 by Malin Leave a Comment

This is the first in a new series by Lorraine Heath, featuring the Hellions of Havisham. The first of these Hellions is Nicholson Lambert, the Duke of Ashebury. He lost his parents in a gruesome train accident and was sent to the country to be raised by the Marquess of Marsden. Along with him were the Earl of Grayling and his twin brother, orphaned in the same accident. Their parents appointed the Marquess of Marsden their guardian, unaware that Marsden was driven pretty much out […]
