It’s OK to be Genre Fiction, I Promise

January 26, 2017 by sarah_jwh Leave a Comment

This review is for the audiobook version of The Quick, by Lauren Owen. This book wasn’t what I thought it was going to be. I don’t think that it’s what it thinks it is either. This is genre fiction that thinks it’s literary, with quirks that seem to scream “I’m different and unique,” when in fact it’s just another vampire story. The blurb described the book as being about a woman, Charlotte, who goes to London after her brother disappears and discovers a few […]

The one where Rachel embraces her dark side

December 31, 2016 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Black Magic Sanction has Rachel Morgan once again up to her pretty ears in trouble for the eighth go round. This time her deadbeat thief ex-boyfriend, Nick, has ratted her out to the witch council. They now want to sterilize her or imprison her to prevent her demon blood seeping back into the witch population. Rachel is minding her own business in the grocery store when a deadly agent from the council attempts to take her in with no explanation. Needless to say, she is […]

December 31, 2016 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Recombinant follows a reluctant partnership between a vampire hunter named Lea and an investigative reporter named Rachel. Lea is a Cazador meaning she trained her whole life to hunt vampires. Even after being turned, she won’t stray from her mission. She has a spry elderly man named Calvin who has been helping her for many decades. Unwittingly, Rachel crosses path with them after an old friend comes to her for help. He has been secretly gathering proof that vampires exist. He doesn’t want to involve Rachel only wants […]

Romancing the Stone with immortal beings

December 31, 2016 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

After a brief respite, I dove back into the Immortals After Dark series with No Rest for the Wicked. Much to my surprise, it had a very realistic (as it could be) romance between the paired supernaturals. Sebastian Wroth has retreated from the world to a dusty Russian castle so disgusted with his vampire existence. He was forcibly turned by his brothers and never forgiven them for it – or himself. He hides in a cave and hungers for death. However, fate issn’t done with him and brings […]

Werewolves are a tad possessive

December 30, 2016 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

I enjoyed reading Mrs. Julien’s hilarious Kresley Cole book reviews during previous cannonball reads. I read Shadows Claim last year when it was a Vaginal Fantasy pick, but didn’t really get fully hooked. So when I was in The Ripped Bodice, I decided to tackle one of the first books in the series for my trip to Greece. A Hunger Like No Other follows Lachlain, a lykae (werewolf) Scottish warrior on a journey of love and revenge. The male kind of his species mate for life when first meeting said […]

“Chicks dig a man of mystery. And werewolves. Chicks really dig werewolves”

December 30, 2016 by Malin 1 Comment

4.5 stars Spoiler warning! This is the third book in The Innkeeper Chronicles and as such, this review may contain spoilers for previous books in the series. It’s also a series that is best read in order, so if you are unfamiliar with the books, go start at the beginning, with Clean Sweep. While Dina Demille may seem like a fairly ordinary young human woman, she is in fact an Innkeeper, and within the bounds of her inn, she is almost unbelievably powerful. Her broom […]
