Post-Cannonball roundup

The Nine Taylors by Dorothy L. Sayers

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

Vicious by V.E. Schwab

Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka

The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn

December 30, 2018 by Aquillia 3 Comments

I actually read more books this year than I have since I can remember. I just don’t have the energy to review them all for various reasons. Last year I did a round-up of all the books I didn’t properly review, and I’d like to do the same now (I’m only counting this review as 1 book read, because even though it’s lots of books, it’s not a full review for each and there’s no overarching theme like I usually do in my multi-book reviews). […]

Fast paced fantasy with a great premise

December 25, 2018 by Aquillia 1 Comment

I’ve been waiting to write this review for a while, partly because I wanted to review the Shades of Magic Trilogy together and I’ve only just read the third one. (And partly because I’m better at reading than writing reviews…) This series was my introduction to V. E. Schwab, although I’d encountered mentions of the trilogy for a while now in the fantasy world. Part of the reason I finally read them was my reading challenge for the first half of the year: to read […]

Thank you, KatSings!

Thank you, whoever my Book Exchanger is! Neither of these was on my radar, and both of them sound awesome. I have to decide which one I want to start on my plane ride home for the holidays. I can’t wait to get started on them! Thanks oodles! UPDATE! Part 2 has arrived, with a bookmark (from The Strand, ooh aah!) and a lovely card from KatSings. Thank you, Katie!

Two parents, a girl, a ghost, and a ticked-off cat

September 30, 2018 by Leedock 4 Comments

CBR10 BINGO:  And So It Begins I added this to my hold list at the library months before the publication date and I STILL had to wait a month for it. Behold the power of Victoria Schwab! I loved her Shades of Magic series (as V.E. Schwab)  and liked her YA Monsters of Verity series so it was a no brainer for me to snatch this one up. After a near death experience where she is “rescued” by a ghost, Cass is able to sense […]

Who Draws The Line Between Villain and Hero

May 22, 2018 by Jen K 2 Comments

I picked this one up after narfna’s rave review, and while I liked it, I didn’t love it as much as her, potentially because I had set my expectations a bit high. I also think this is the second book I’ve read in the past month where a character rushed to call another character a murderer for what was really more of an accidental death. I guess I am more technical than the characters, and in the accuser’s defense just because it was an accident […]

I waited way too long to read this.

March 4, 2018 by narfna 10 Comments

Well, it’s no wonder this is the book that propelled her to the bestseller list. It feels like one of those books that just falls out of the author’s pen (or keyboard, or whatever), practically telling itself. (Of course, I know that doesn’t really happen. But sometimes a story finds the exact right author at the exact right time, and it feels inevitable and effortless, even if lots of work behind the scenes is actually making it look that way.) If you were to try […]
