I’m So Done with This Series

The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, vol. 5 by Usata Nonohara

June 19, 2022 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I totally only read this book to finish the story; I’d kind of given up on The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life but I wanted to see how the main group of heroes would save the day as they inevitably would (and did). One of the only reasons this conclusion to the question of will they be bale to defeat the Labyrinth and how isn’t a bad finish is because there’s not much of either Mariela or Sieg. Throughout the […]

I’m not sorry this one’s almost over

The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life (Vol. 4) by Usata Nonohara, Ox (illustrator)

I’m pretty sure I’m only going to finish this series because the premise had potential at the beginning and several of the side characters were interesting. I’m kind of glad that the main storyline ends with the next installment which apparently just came out. I saw that novel may not be the end of the story, but I mostly don’t care anymore. So, in The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life (part 4), we get a new character who I was […]

In which side characters are the real ones

The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, Vol. 2 (light novel) by Usata Nonhora

February 8, 2020 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Light novel 2 in The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life really develops the world and some of the characters. Some darkness is introduced and more history about the status of alchemy and alchemists, and the Labyrinth, is really the focus of the volume. This means both more story and more world building. The biggest problem from book 1 gets a little worse in book 2 though, and that’s Mariela. She’s supposed to be the main heroine, but she’s totally […]

The Book with a Long Title but Not Much Depth

The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life by Usata Nonohara, Ox (illustrator), Guru Mizoguchi (manga)

November 24, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

I don’t always agree with the reviewers in Otaku USA magazine in fact I often don’t, at least on some big point or another. This time however, they nailed it. I saw a review for The Alchemist Who Survived Now Dreams of a Quiet City Life, which decided that this was unremarkable, but cute, more about the characters than the story. Then I was off on a business trip and had some time to spare on my way to the hotel and wandered into a […]
