Magic Tides: Kate & Curran Still Going Strong

Magic Tides: Kate & Curran Still Going Strong

Magic Tides by Ilona Andrews

February 11, 2023 by malechai 6 Comments

Plot summary of Magic Tides: Kate, Curran and their son, Conlan have left Atlanta, vowing to keep a low profile, and are settling into a new city and new house…but some things never change! Magical mayhem is about to erupt when Kate undertakes the rescue of a kidnapped youth, while Curran guards the homefront. It should be a simple retrieval, but with monsters on land and sea, Kate’s got her work cut out for her. Still, she’s never let her blade dull or her purpose […]

“They were pilgrims. They were cosmonauts. They were as good as dead.”

Hell Bent (Alex Stern, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

January 26, 2023 by narfna 2 Comments

Just like with the first book, I feel like I need to turn around and read this again from the beginning to really get a handle on my feelings about what happened. This book is even more intense, and is basically non-stop plot for its entirety. And, once again, Bardugo doesn’t write linearly, which adds an additional layer of intrigue and makes you want to turn the pages faster because she knows what to tease and when to explain. Yeah, it was really good. Spoilers […]

“WHERE’S MY COW? ARE YOU MY COW?”

Thud! (Discworld, #34) by Terry Pratchett

January 10, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was almost five stars for me, and might very well get bumped up on eventual re-read, but for now it’s holding steady at 4.5 stars, rounded down. It didn’t quite reach the level of profound delightment that I need in order to give a Discworld book five stars. Mostly what I feel right now as I type this review is sad that this was my last brand new City Watch book, which has been my favorite of the Discworld sub-series. And I am very […]

My 2022 Mercy Thompson binge

Night Broken by Patricia Briggs

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs

Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs

December 31, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I was spacing out the Mercy Thompson series over the last few Cannonball Read challenges. Not this go-round. I got hooked and read five in a row! I will keep the spoilers light, but there are some things you may want to keep as a surprise if you haven’t read this series. Night Broken sees Mercy dealing with an unwanted house guest: Christy, Adam’s ex-wife. She has a hell of a stalker and needs the pack’s protection. Out of jealousy, the stalker burned down a […]

I would read ten more of these.

The Grief of Stones (The Cemeteries of Amalo, #2) by Katherine Addison

December 30, 2022 by narfna 2 Comments

These books are sad, contemplative, and lovely. I had a bit of a hard time getting in to the first one because the tone and pacing are pretty unique, but once I sank into it I really enjoyed myself. Right away with The Grief of Stones I was able to get back into the right mindset and I enjoyed it even more. I know there will be at least one more book following Celahar, but I find myself hoping there will be more than that. We need, […]

My love for Seanan McGuire continues

Late Eclipses by Seanan McGuire

Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire

December 29, 2022 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

I’m slowly working my way through Seanan McGuire’s body of work. Her books are exactly the kind of urban fantasy I love. She has a way of writing witty heroines who put their lives on the line for others. I decided to put the InCryptid series into the rotation. I bought the first book on audiobook on sale ages ago. I also have been desperate to read novels I already own. It was a win-win. Discount Armageddon introduces us to Verity Price. She comes from a long […]
