Mixing it up with gentrification, magic, and Mothman

When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews

I'm in Love with Mothman by Paige Lavoie

December 30, 2023 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

CBR15 Passport Challenge: Different genres – suspense thriller, urban fantasy, and monster romance When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole has been in my audible library for way too long. When it was picked for my Lawless book club, it was a sign. I do like to read mystery and thrillers to mix it up between the glut of romances I read. Dubbed by the author as a gentrification thriller, Sydney Green is having a bad time. After a disastrous divorce, she’s moved back in […]

Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles, #1) by Ilona Andrews

December 19, 2023 by narfna 6 Comments

“…Something isn’t right with you and this property. Strange things happen around it. I don’t know what is going on, but I will find out. You could make it easier on yourself by coming clean.” “Sure. This is a magic bed-and-breakfast and the two guys in my kitchen are aliens from outerspace.” Blurb from the back of the book: “On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih […]

Cat Transformations and Found Family

Spell Bound by FT Lukens

December 12, 2023 by Pooja Leave a Comment

Rook has a secret – he’s non-magical, yet a powerful sorcerer has taken him on as her apprentice. But when the Magical Consortium comes down on them for breaking the law, he ends up going on the run with Sun, the apprentice of a rival sorcerer. I  read FT Lukens’s So This is Ever After last year, which I gave an A for the romance but found the other aspects of the story less impressive. But I’ll try most things twice, and intrigued by the […]

Cover for the book The Hallowed Hunt by Yasmine Galenorn

Things Finally Start to Really Gel for This Series

The Hallowed Hunt by Yasmine Galenorn

December 3, 2023 by Kit Moonstar Leave a Comment

The Wild Hunt is dealing with a pair of heavy cases: a new hate group targeting humans and shifters with public terrorist attacks and a serial killer that kidnaps and kills little girls.  With a large death toll from the two first two terrorist attacks and a climate of fear rising in the city, it’s hard to juggle the smaller case, but Ember can’t give up on it especially when there’ a chance they could find the current missing little girl before she’s killed.  Throw […]

“Would you please make haste with your mental breakdown. We have masculine flesh to consume.”

Oops I Ate a Vengeance Demon by Lauretta Hignett

December 2, 2023 by Bothari43 1 Comment

I talked about this book in a recent CBR Diversion, saying that I hoped I would get it for Christmas. My CBR Fairy Bookmother decided she couldn’t wait until then to see what I thought, so she sent it to me (thank yooooouuu!).  This book was half delightful, half mystifying, and wholly my fault for not doing more digging. I fell for the title and the blurb, but didn’t put it together that ‘urban fantasy’ often means (gasp, ew!) romance. Spoilers ahoy!  Sandy is a […]

For those of you wanted Babel to be even more intense.

Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang

November 20, 2023 by narfna Leave a Comment

I wanted to make sure to actually write a review for this one, because I want more people to be reading it. Everyone who read Babel last year should also read this. Like, ASAP. I’m sure this review is about to be trash because I tend to babble when I attempt to sum up how good this book is, or go on too long, but I’m going to try anyway, because it was such an immersive and satisfying reading experience. Our main character is Sciona, […]
