Dammit, Brandon Sanderson, write a bad book once in a while!

February 10, 2016 by narfna 15 Comments

Holy shitsticks, this was fun. I’m sure Brandon Sanderson won’t be the last person to play around with evolving his/her fantasy world into some imagined future, but he was the first to do it, and that’s really something. This book actually happened sort of by accident. He was always planning on taking the world of the Mistborn trilogy (called Scadrial) and moving it forward to do two more trilogies, one set in a 1980s equivalent world, and a space opera where Allomancy (magic) exists side […]

Well…. the cupcakes sounded tasty…

January 30, 2016 by melanir 18 Comments

I didn’t hate this novel, but I also can’t give it more then one star. It’s badly written and badly in need of an editor. The writing was so frustratingly bad that I would just shake my kindle in annoyance (I’m not throwing it across the room, I like my kindle). There were some redeeming factors: it was free, there were werewolves, and there were more then a few female characters. The plot is a fairly standard plot for the first novel in an urban fantasy […]

The last Magic Ex Libris book doesn’t disappoint.

January 24, 2016 by narfna 2 Comments

NB: I received a free review copy of this book but that has not affected the content of my review. Maybe you will understand just how much fun I think this series is if I tell you that I quite literally sent an email to Mr. Hines’s publicist begging her for a review copy, when I learned there were a few available. I was a bit nervous once it arrived though; in the unlikely event I didn’t like the book, I would be stuck with […]

Insert Witty Shakespeare Pun Here

January 15, 2016 by Lizbth 4 Comments

Another year, another attempt to complete a Cannonball goal, which I have dropped down to the quarter cannonball. My reading is not the problem here. It’s my reviewing that sucks balls. Also, my terrible, terrible, awful, beautiful Destiel fanfiction habit. I read like three books for the latter half of last year because of the sheer volume of fanfiction I read, it’s not even funny. Maybe ten books. Certainly no more than ten. Maybe fifteen. But whatever! This year I shall intersperse my crack habit […]

Urban Fairy Tales, and I hate serial novels

January 13, 2016 by melanir Leave a Comment

I need to start this review off with a disclaimer. This novel is part of Amazon’s serial novels and was released a chapter at a time over the course of five months. This killed me. I hate this format and I really don’t think the novel is suited to it at all. I am a fast reader, and two weeks between chapters means that there’s anywhere from 2-6 books between each section and it’s hard to maintain a complete hold on all the little details of the novel in […]

A girl, on fire, in a white dress over the word FLEX on a black background

Let’s Start This Party with a Bang!

Flex took me a while to get into; I started reading it a chapter here, a chapter there, and then all of a sudden, wham. Had to finish the book. Couldn’t put it aside.
