Apocalypse is a frame of mind.

January 19, 2017 by narfna 5 Comments

I never actually wrote a review of this book the first time around, just a few quick sentences. I don’t remember why. I was probably just being lazy. This is what I wrote back in December 2010: “I’m still waiting to be knocked off my feet by this series, but this book was still pretty fun. Also, Susan was way less annoying, ditto for Gentleman Johnny Marcone. The best part was when Thomas offered to high-five Ortega right before the duel. There needs to be […]

Teenagers and Demons, Oh My!

January 15, 2017 by Ale 6 Comments

I read this so my teenage sister-in-law would have someone to talk to about it, and….meh? There were some good things about it; there were even times when I laughed or had feelings for the characters, but that didn’t happen until around page 240…..Now, that doesn’t mean this book is bad. I’m just not the intended audience. It’s a YA, which I typically have issues with anyway, and its’ about hell-beasts, and demons, and teenagers with feels, and I’m a 30-year-old woman who doesn’t have […]

The sun comes up, just your bones remain

January 11, 2017 by melanir 7 Comments

Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day is a standalone novella by Seanan McGuire who is one of my favorite writers. I love her work and I recommend it every chance I get. But even with all that, this novella hit me in a very different way than most of her novels do. I can’t be objective about this novella, I just can’t. It completely and utterly wrecked me and left me a sobbing mess on my couch last night. Yesterday morning I got an email […]

Magic Ex Libris

January 5, 2017 by Dome'Loki 2 Comments

New Year and new hopes for Cannonball 9!  Things are getting off to a good start as I finished “Revisionary” yesterday and am putting up my review today.  I believe John Scalzi was the gateway to my discovering Jim C. Hines and I so glad to have found him as he not only an incredibly talented writer but a stand up human being as well (it’s always wonderful when those two intersect).  In 2012 wanting to discuss the ways women are portrayed on cover art […]

Everything You Want in an Urban Romance

January 3, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I maybe screeched a bit while reading this the other day. It was so ridiculously good I could not keep a hold of myself. You get action, interesting new characters, new information about how the Innkeeepers mete out justice, and oh you get a really nice love scene (finally some of you are saying!) which was great. This whole thing was way too short for me. I needed more and felt really upset when we got the final page. The only thing I wish […]
