After five novels, Antimony “Annie” Price, the youngest Price sibling finally gets to say her piece. While her older siblings see Antimony as the trap and ambush setting younger sister who has been hanging out at home post high school and playing roller derby, Annie has a rather different view. She is the good, loyal daughter while Verity craves the spotlight, and as a result got them into their current mess: after battling a snake summoned from an alternate dimension on live TV and revealing […]
Gunmetal Magic, or, how I managed to ruin Raphael for myself…
A slight detour in my Kate Daniels read-a-thon, Gunmetal Magic is actually a side novel apparently set between books 5 & 6 – and it’s a side novel I’d have had no clue existed if it wasn’t for the kind Cannonballers who mentioned it, so a big thank you to you all! Until this point we’ve been reading about the adventures of Kate – former merc, now the Consort to the Beast Lord and possessor of a smoking sword and dodgy blood – as she’s […]
Dance, dance and these are the lives you love to lead
And Verity is back! Dominic and Verity have completed their cross-country road trip after leaving Manhattan to avoid any further Covenant activity with time for a quickie wedding stop in Vegas, and are back at Verity’s family compound in Oregon. They aren’t home for long before Verity gets an email from the producer of Dance or Die, the reality TV competition she participated in, and upon calling, she is invited back for reunion season that would involve the top 4 from the first five seasons. […]
Monsters in a Land Down Under
Overall, I would say this one is probably my least favorite of the InCryptid series so far but is still an entertaining ride. Sometimes when an author does novels from different perspectives, it’s hard not to treat the first narrator as a favorite, even if the other characters are also interesting (definitely had that issue with Women of the Otherworld and Elena, though Eve and Jaime Vegas both gave her a good run for her money – unfortunately Jamie only got the one perspective novel). […]
Sadly, Thor Does Not Make An Appearance
I’m not sure who is deciding on the titles for these novels, but I was incredibly disappointed that this one didn’t involve creatures from Norse mythology given the use of the word Ragnarok! I know there are some giant snakes in Norse mythology but the ones in this book all seem to be of Greek origin. In this novel, McGuire shifts focus from Verity Price to her older brother Alex, who is running a hidden basilisk breeding program at a zoo in Columbus, Ohio. Up […]
Things Are About to Get Serious
The second book of the InCryptid series takes place about six months after Discount Armageddon, and this review will include spoilers for the previous novel. Verity and Dominic are in an undefined relationship but she is still a Price and he is still Covenant so neither wants to discuss what is going on. While Dominic has kept her identity secret and neglected to tell the Covenant about the male dragon under Manhattan, he has still been a member of monster hunting society since birth. He […]
