Come see the glory of Vermont!

August 8, 2018 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

It is fitting that my 300th book be set in my home state of Vermont. And since Vermont is so awesome, I am reviewing three books! Trust me, no single book can hold all our greatness! And due to the nature of each book, it does take three books to live up to the glory of my state. These three board books are meant as tourist mementos of your trip for your toddler and not an in-depth look at the state. Night-Night Vermont by Katherine […]

What made, and still makes, America great.

First and foremost, I’m sorry for the sensationalized header. I hope I didn’t make your eyes twitch but I think it is an accurate title independent of the political climate. Hello, how are you? Having a good Saturday? Did you let yourself forget for a few minutes that everything is garbage? Please, allow me to bring you back to nightmare reality with this review. Every so often I read a book and I think, “Everyone should read this book.” I’ve thought that (and probably written it) about several books I’ve read since joining Cannonball Read, but I’ve never felt it as strongly as I have about this book. Another Day in the Death of America […]

America, You Great Unfinished Symphony

April 24, 2016 by Ellesfena Leave a Comment

Losing Our Way is just about the saddest book I’ve ever read. It took me well over a month to read it, even though it’s great, because I had to keep stopping so I wouldn’t sink into a terrible depression. Losing Our Way is basically the story of everything that’s wrong with the United States today, from our failing infrastructure, to struggling schools, to wage stagnation and income inequality, to endless wars in the Middle East. Bob Herbert knows his stuff, and he doesn’t pull […]
