If you’re stabby and you know it, stab someone

If UR Stabby by Kaz Windness

May 2, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

My rating of three is a guessed at average of all my likes and dislikes about the book, If UR Stabby. Kaz Windness created a concept of a depressed unicorn that is mostly amusing. Stabby is the opposite of other unicorns with their jellybeans and kittens and rainbows and six-packs. Stabby is anxiety and gas and stabby. Really, really stabby. Plus, they have a theme song (sung to the tune “If You’re Happy and You Know It”). But then Windness lost me. Um…. Blood and […]

The value of a good cupcake, art and great friends

Dear Unicorn by Josh Funk

January 13, 2023 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

CBR15Passport Books recommended by friends  (I was recommend by the author and I have exchanged more than just tweets with him)   The cute companion to Dear Dragon by Josh Funk has arrived! (Or will in September 2023). We will now enjoy pen palling with a young girl and her unicorn pen pal in Dear Unicorn. This is a fun story about a young girl and her pen pal, who do not realize that they might have a lot in common (they like art, sports, […]

Family Drama

The Pinhoe Egg by Diana Wynne Jones

January 10, 2022 by Ale 1 Comment

In my 2022 quest to read Diana Wynne Jones’ full body of work, I’m running down the Chrestomanci books first. After completing The Lives of Christopher Chant and Charmed Life last year, I’ve moved on to The Pinhoe Egg. Picking up about a year after Charmed Life ends, The Pinhoe Egg focuses on a huge family of Dwimmers, or nature-magical mages, who are trying their best to keep their magical abilities away from what they believe is the oppressive oversight of Chrestomanci. Things have gone fine for years, with them […]

Fern has her own personality as I have mine (see image….It is SO happily me)

Nerdy Corn by Andrew Root

August 18, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Fern is a unicorn. She is creative. She prefers building robots and coding to jumping though rainbows that shimmer or splashing in waterfalls. She likes chemistry and reading. Glitter is not her thing, but she is always a good friend and willing to lend a helping hoof to help others. Still the other unicorns tease Fern and call her a Nerdy Corn. Andrew Root has taken the theme of bullies and being yourself on a slightly different journey in Nerdy Corn. Fern, when she is […]

I love you in my own special way

A Unicorn Named Sparkle and the Perfect Valentine by Amy Young

June 23, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

I am not usually a big fan of Sparkle and Lucy, but there was something about A Unicorn Named Sparkle and the Perfect Valentine that “got me.” And I do not know how Amy Young did it, but they made me like Valentines Day. They made me want to make Valentines for all my friends right now and not wait until February. However, I do not want to make them in the special way Lucy makes hers (or not just the way she does them), […]

Magical Friendship: cbr12bingo – “Friendship”

Phoebe and Her Unicorn in The Magic Storm by Dana Simpson

October 30, 2020 by Dome'Loki Leave a Comment

“Phoebe and Her Unicorn” began as a web comic by Dana Simpson in 2012 and then a few years later became a syndicated comic strip in newspapers, that is still in active publication.  The first five books in the series are compilations of those comics.  Phoebe and Her Unicorn in The Magic Storm is the first standalone graphic novel. Phoebe is an average girl who befriends a unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils.  Together they tackle the mundane, school, to adventure, like when they solve mysteries as the […]
