Here are the books I read in May 2022 that I didn’t get to give a full review for whatever reason. I read a lot of authors of AAPI descent; their books were all wonderful in their own respective ways… Sea of Tranquility **** Unquestionably a metacommentary on the author’s Station Eleven success in the shadow of Covid-19, it’s a beautifully written reflection on finding peace and contentment in the uncertainties of life. I don’t know that I enjoyed it as much as others did given […]

Game of Thrones: Costumes - The Official Book Seasons 1 - 8 by Michele Clapton

February 6, 2020 by Ale 2 Comments

Because Faintingviolet loves me and totally feeds my addictions, I was gifted this amazing costume reference guide from the Game of Thrones series for Christmas. Written by costumer, Michele Clapton herself, the book is almost as long and comprehensive as GRRM’s series. Complete with full color professional photographs, closeups of the costumes, and some of Clapton’s original drawings, this book was an excellent study in both costuming and the intense process that goes into bringing the written word to screen. Clapton goes through each of […]

Lucy Parker writes another keeper

Headliners by Lucy Parker

December 27, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

Disclaimer! I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but this has in no way influenced my review.  While this works fine as a standalone contemporary romance, both characters and some of the events that complicate their relationship early on are introduced in The Austen Playbook, which I can also heartily recommend. Official book description: He might be the sexiest man in London, according to his fan site (which he definitely writes himself), but he’s also the most arrogant man she’s ever met. She might have […]

…You’re There For Me Too

I'll Be There for You: The One About Friends by Kelsey Miller

April 16, 2019 by Niki Leave a Comment

I remember the first time I watched Friends.  I was about 13 years old, and staying over night at my grandparents’ house, and I was bored.  This is the set of grandparents who had not one toy in their house, and when my sister and I would go over to visit, we were allowed to play with the one pair of binoculars and a cabinet full of Tupperware.  It was breathtakingly dull.  I don’t know why I was allowed to watch TV unsupervised, but Friends […]
