Best Audiobook of the Year (Yes, it is only February, don’t care!)

February 5, 2018 by Beth Ellen 5 Comments

How can I have already listened to the best audiobook of the year? It’s only the beginning of February! But I have. It’s that good. Go listen. I didn’t even know much about Mr. Noah going in besides that he hosts the Daily Show, was from South Africa, and does stand up. Doesn’t matter, he tells you all you need to know. So when I told Mr. Beth Ellen what I was listening to his response was, “he’s too young to write a memoir”. And […]

“He’s Mine, He’s Everyone’s”

January 21, 2018 by faintingviolet 1 Comment

Last year there were several glowing reviews of Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime. Based on positive word of mouth I had already picked up the audio version which Noah narrates himself. I was intrigued by Noah – we’re the same age (well, I’m almost exactly a year older) but our lives couldn’t be more different, and I love a good memoir. For the many reasons life throws your way I did not manage to listen to Born a Crime in 2017. However, fast forward to […]

Unexpected, But In a Good Way

December 29, 2017 by ASKReviews Leave a Comment

Best for: Those looking for a compelling memoir. Those interested in learning more about South Africa. In a nutshell: Comedian Trevor Noah shares stories from his life growing up in South Africa. Line that sticks with me: “People say all the time that they’d do anything for the people they love. But would you really? Would you do anything? Would you give everything?” (p279) Why I chose it: My sister gave this to my partner as a Christmas gift. I took it to read before […]

Laugh, Learn and Cry with Trevor Noah

December 26, 2017 by teresaelectro 2 Comments

Trevor Noah’s autobiography, Born a Crime: Stories from A South African Childhood, was my first audio book. I was determined to hear his narration and found the CD version at my local library. My car still has a cd player, so Trevor kept me company during my first week commuting to a new job. All I knew of Trevor Noah was he replaced Jon Stewart, grew up in South Africa and was a comedian. I had no idea what to expect from his book to be honest. […]

Stories from South Africa

December 15, 2017 by Sophia Leave a Comment

Last year for Christmas, my brother and sister-in-law got me a signed copy of Born a Crime (2016) by Trevor Noah. It was a perfect gift because I was already waiting for it to become available at the library. I’d watched Trevor Noah enough on The Daily Show to come to like him and appreciate his humor. I knew that he was South African, but not much else. It wasn’t until I saw him doing an interview talking about his book that I realized he had some […]

I Will Carry You Home in My Teeth

November 4, 2017 by Ellesfena 2 Comments

I’m an introvert, and if there’s one thing I hate it’s interacting with people I don’t know. So when I finished reading Born a Crime while on an airplane, and found myself fighting the urge to wake up the woman next to me and tell her how great it was, I knew this book must be pretty special. Born a Crime is the story of Trevor Noah’s childhood growing up in South Africa. Trevor’s father is white, and his mother black. Since he was born […]
