Funny Famous People (CBR11Bingo: Birthday)

Congratulations, Who Are You Again? by Harrison Scott Key

The Greatest Love Story Ever Told by Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman

Yes Please by Amy Poehler

Bossypants by Tina Fey

Funny celebrity memoirs — definitely one of my favorite categories. I might be stretching the definition of “celebrity” with Harrison Scott Key, but his was my favorite so I’m grouping it in here. Also, god bless Amy Poehler — her birthday is September 16th and she’s my Birthday square! (five stars) Congratulations, Who Are You Again? by Harrison Scott Key Harrison Scott Key wrote this great book I read earlier this year — The World’s Largest Man. It won a lot of prizes. It also […]

“Being a good boss means hiring talented people and then getting out of their way.”

February 28, 2018 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

I continued my re-visiting of celebrity memoirs in audio-book form by listening to Tina Fey’s Bossypants and it was a delight. Tina Fey is one of my favorite humans and 30 Rock is one of my favorite TV shows. As I write this my husband and I are watching the series finale following what was most likely our 15th or 16th re-watch.* We probably couldn’t go a whole day without dropping at least one 30 Rock line.** I seriously considered having this whole review just being 30 Rock gifs but I […]

A really boring review about a really funny book.

September 30, 2017 by Blingle Bells Leave a Comment

Tina Fey, man. What even is there to say? It’s her memoir. It’s really, really weird that I picked it up at all because there’s not much on this planet that I’m less interested in than celebrity memoirs. I’m an ISTJ, I’m interested in a lot of things, but not that. I reluctantly read Leah Remini’s book Troublemaker because I was curious about Scientology and it seemed like an accessible book about it, but read the parts about her life and career and behind the […]

“In most cases being a good boss means hiring talented people and then getting out of their way.”

March 7, 2017 by badkittyuno 8 Comments

God, I love this book –even though the cover still really creeps me out. I have read it before — 2013, it looks like — but haven’t listened to the audio version. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AUDIO VERSION. If the written copy deserves 5 stars, the audio (read by the author, of course) should get 6! 7! Give Tina all the stars! “Some people say, “Never let them see you cry.” I say, if you’re so mad you could just cry, then cry. It terrifies everyone.” […]

A real look into sexism through humor and real life – no fuss, no muss

January 18, 2017 by postcardsandbooks 9 Comments

Although I am a somewhat recent convert into the world of strong female celebrity memoirs, I have recently read had 3 of them read to me by the authors through the fascinating experience that are audiobooks, and I must admit I have been converted. It’s always a breath of fresh air to have an intelligent woman talk to/at you for 4-6 hours about funny little anecdotes that may or may not carry some underlying lesson about the world. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have […]
