You’re Not Paranoid, You Really Have No Privacy

March 9, 2015 by reginadelmar Leave a Comment

The title of this book really is Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (WTF). As it clips along you find yourself wondering: who can you really trust? Who is watching you and why? Who is the greater threat: government or unregulated big corporations? We’ve given up our privacy willingly, but what else are we giving up? What if we’re giving away ourselves, only to have to buy it back? And why am I laughing?   Leila, a non-profit worker stationed in Myanmar, is familiar with a government […]

Just so you know, Cross: I still haven’t forgiven you for Justin Ripley

[Mild spoilers for Luther seasons 1, 2 and 3] Here’s a question for all you Cannonballers: which is easier to write, a good review or a bad review? I tend not to mind either way. Scathing, bitchy reviews are fun, but so is expressing your profound love and enjoyment of a book you have just read. The hardest reviews, I think, are about the books I am unsure about. Unfortunately for me, The Calling falls into this category. The Calling is a prequel to the […]

He’d been tested in ways most never would; he felt good about the score.

Marcus Sakey writes my favorite subgenre of leisure fiction – the elevated airport thriller. An airport thriller is an entertaining action/thriller novel that you would find in paperback form in any American airport. The elevated airport thriller has more panache than the average entertaining read. In The Blade Itself, Sakey gives the reader characters with depth and some hold-your-breath moments, and he does it with flair. “Everybody always goes down on the last job. You know why? Because if they don’t go down, they do […]

Now, for a companion review, either start here of read the review for novel number 1 first ! What’s the title ? Veronica Mars (2): An Original Mystery by Rob Thomas: Mr. Kiss and Tell Oh, there’s a second one so soon ! Did you like it ? Yes ! What’s it about ? It’s nine months after the events of the movie and Keith is back at Mars Investigations. We also witness the fall-out from the events regarding Weevil in the movie (he was […]

Since my first review was my last read at the time, now I have to go back up the list. Q&A, go ! So going back, title please ? Veronica Mars: An Original Mystery by Rob Thomas: The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line. Yeah, it’s a long title. Actually it’s by Rob Thomas & Jennifer Graham. Did you like it ? Yes. (Didn’t you hear me ? It’s a VERONICA MARS novel. What kind of a question is that ? If I could, I’d put glitter and […]

‘Kill Ball’ is the story of a lonely guy, Colin, who accidentally caused his mother’s death when he was a kid. All he’s ever wanted was to be held, but the increasingly isolated world he lives in has made this desire impossible. He becomes obsessed with a stripper he believes he has a special connection with. A killer is stalking the streets and seems to have his sights set on Colin’s girl. Oh yeah, and everyone rolls around in giant hamster balls. How could I […]
