The Kind Worth Reading On a Beach When You’re Kinda Drunk and Not Thinking Too Hard

February 24, 2017 by Lindzgrl 3 Comments

I added this book to my audiobook queue because it was recommended that if you liked Girl On The Train and Gone Girl you would also like this. It’s also supposedly in development to become a movie, but I read that same thing about The Lies of Locke Lamora about 20 years ago, and it STILL hasn’t happened and I’m STILL angry about it. Here’s the thing, I DID enjoy both GOTT and GG, and I can see why someone would recommend this […]

Caution – Difficult to Put Down

February 4, 2017 by janetfaust 4 Comments

This book is fairly new territory for me as a reader who primarily sticks to science fiction, fantasy, and the occasional non-fiction book. Fiction set in our world, in current times, simply hasn’t been on my radar. But Resurrection Express enticed me with its cover, featuring the skyline of my hometown, and from the first couple of pages I was hooked. How this thriller compares to others in the genre, I really cannot say. If you enjoy action, lots of plot turns, suspense, and don’t […]

To The Extreme

February 3, 2017 by ElCicco 1 Comment

Confessions is a psychological thriller/murder novel that keeps a fast pace and tight organization throughout. Told from the points of view of multiple narrators, the story focuses on the murder of a middle school teacher’s 4-year-old daughter and the fallout from that murder. Parent-child relationships, teacher-student relationships and the allure of revenge are the themes that run throughout. Chapter one is narrated by middle school teacher Moriguchi. It is the last day of the term, and she announces to her class that it is also […]

Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers

January 11, 2017 by Siege 2 Comments

In which Siege returns to CBR, in hopes of not embarrassing herself by signing up and then doing zero reviews again this year. Her first review is Finders Keepers, the second book in Stephen King’s Bill Hodges trilogy.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

January 11, 2017 by Classic 12 Comments

Oh man. This is going to be a doozy. I am still mad and I finished this up last night. I mean I woke up at one point last night and maybe screeched yelled at the final reveal to this book. I have loved older Koontz books, but his most recent stuff besides the Odd Thomas books hasn’t really resonated with me. The only book I recall that I even “liked” was “The City” and even that got on my nerves at times. I think […]

Definitely not The Descent

January 4, 2017 by Lindzgrl 1 Comment

I have this tendency to add books to my audiobook queue (I use SimplyAudio because it’s cheap) without really doublechecking that they’re the correct book, which sometimes leads to a pleasant surprise but most often just leads me to a place of confusion and disappointment (aka “adulthood”). I, like many people, really enjoyed the movie The Descent and I guess when I saw this title come up on my recommended list I just assumed it was the novelization or book it was based on. It’s […]
