The Wheel of Time (Part II)

The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan

The Fires of Heaven by Robert Jordan

May 1, 2021 by ingres77 15 Comments

Part I can be found here. The Shadow Rising (3.5 stars) I’m going to start off with a plot summary, but I’m doing that for a reason. So, if you don’t want spoilers – skip the next few paragraphs. At the end of The Dragon Reborn, Rand took the sword Callandor from the Stone of Tear (thus continuing the allusions to King Arthur), which further cemented his place within the prophecies as the Dragon Reborn. And that’s where we pick up here, in The Shadow […]

The Wheel of Time (Part I)

The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

The Great Hunt by Robert Jordan

The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan

April 10, 2021 by ingres77 26 Comments

The Wheel of Time turns, and ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legends fade to myth, and even myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the third age by some, an Age yet to come, an age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. there are neither beginnings or endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it […]

A quick sojourn in the world of The Wheel of Time

July 21, 2017 by Aquillia Leave a Comment

A few caveats before I begin: I read this novella in the collection Legends, edited by Robert Silverberg (thus the confusing author/title data provided above.) It’s also where I first read The Hedge Knight (George RR Martin). Even though it’s a novella, I’m counting it as a book–partly because I don’t really want to read most of the other entries in the collection. Maybe the Le Guin one someday, if I read more of the Earthsea novels, and likewise King’s if I read the Dark Tower novels, but I […]

Two down, only twelve more to go!

March 15, 2016 by narfna Leave a Comment

Objectively for me (which I realize is a contradictory statement), this is a three star book. It has some major problems. But . . . I just can’t resist the siren call of an immersive fantasy world, and unlike the first book in the series, which failed to capture my imagination, this one did. So I’m giving it the fourth star, for the potential I see in the series, and for giving me that good old fantasy world buzz. First, the good stuff, the most […]
