“Missing you is profoundly inconvenient, I’ll have you know. I have things to do and places to be, and all the while I’ll feel like I’ve mislaid a piece of my soul and I won’t get it back until I see you again. That can’t be normal.”

The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian

April 11, 2020 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

I should have read this one much closer to the previous two in the series, The Soldier’s Scoundrel and The Lawrence Brown Affair because so many of our previous characters reappear here and are woven into the plot. As a reader you can tell that Sebastian was getting more comfortable in her writing, overall, this book is stronger than the previous two, even if Sebastian shortchanges the plot a smidge in the final third. I continue to really like how Cat Sebastian builds her stories: […]

In 2005, Someone Was Worried the Lesbians Would Take Over RWA

A Little Light Mischief: A Turner Novella by Cat Sebastian

December 31, 2019 by Emmalita 1 Comment

In 2005, someone was worried that the lesbian would take over RWA. Lesbians are just people and their range of competencies tracks with the rest of society’s, but if lesbians taking over RWA meant I was getting more books like that, please hand over the keys to the nearest lesbian. If you are not reading Cat Sebastian yet, you should be. She is a delight in any time period. At the very beginning of A Little Light Mischief, we learn the following things: Mrs. Wraxhall […]

A kissing book with SCIENCE!

The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian

July 22, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

4.5 stars #CBR11 Bingo: Science! One of the protagonists is a scientist and his scientific experiments plays an important part throughout the story. Official book description: Lawrence Browne, the Earl of Radnor, is mad. At least, that’s what he and most of the village believes. A brilliant scientist, he hides himself away in his family’s crumbling estate, unwilling to venture into the outside world. When an annoyingly handsome man arrives at Penkellis, claiming to be Lawrence’s new secretary, his carefully planned world is turned upside down. […]

I’m always happy to discover a promising new romance author

February 4, 2018 by Malin 4 Comments

Jack Turner and his siblings grew up in the slums of London and they have all worked hard to get out from under the criminal enterprises of their parents. Jack’s sister is a dressmaker, while his brother seems to keep very posh and rarefied company these days. Jack uses some of the skills he’s learned over the years to help women in trouble. He can locate stolen items, deal with blackmail claims, even make an unpleasant husband disappear to somewhere far away – his only […]

I seriously can’t decide which book in this trilogy is my favorite. I love them all.

December 30, 2017 by narfna 2 Comments

I’m so into this author right now, and I’m so upset she has only published three books so far. I want her next book right frickin now. (Out in two weeks, already pre-ordered.) This is the last book in the Turner series, and it’s just as good as the first two. We met our heroes last book. Julian Medlock is the brother of Eleanor Standish, Lawrence’s science friend, and Lord Courtenay his son’s uncle. Courtenay is the titular rake, an infamous scapegrace who has spent […]

Cat Sebastian is now on my autobuy list.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

(FYI as of posting this review, this book is currently $1.99 on Kindle.) I’ve only read two books by this author, but she’s already on my auto-buy list. Traditionally published LGBTQIA historical romance novels are hard enough to come by (like, I don’t actually think I’ve ever seen one before??), but so far both of the books I’ve read by Cat Sebastian have been some of the best romance novels I’ve read, period. They’ve both had everything I look for in a romance novel: interesting […]
