I’m dying. I’m dead. Murdered by the puppy cannon!

The Suffragette Scandal by Courtney Milan

March 8, 2023 by ElCicco 3 Comments

CBR15passport recommended ‘You can address me by my preferred title: you idiot.’ I’ve seen references to “the puppy cannon” amongst romance novel fans here on CBR over the years. I never really investigated what it meant and in my head, for some reason, it was “the puppy canon,” like some kind of reference to a specific sub-genre of romance novel. It is not. It is truly the puppy cannon, and if there were to be some kind of puppy cannon canon, I would be all […]

Strong Ending to the Brothers Sinister Series

The Suffragette Scandal by Cour

January 25, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I have to say that this re-read was really enjoyable. I really did like reading about Free and Edward again. I honestly don’t have much to add from my original review except to say that the book starring Violet pales in comparison to this one. Original review below: The character of Free was introduced to readers in her brother’s book (The Heiress Effect #2) and I was instantly enamored with her. When she tells her brother Oliver that the world had better look out for […]

This book is still perfection to me

This is a re-read. My original review can be found here. If you do read my original write-up of this book, you will see just how full of superlatives I was for this book. It is very rare that I just can’t concentrate on other books before I’ve read a book at least twice, just to get it out of my system a little bit. This is one of the few books I can remember that happening with. There are very few books out there that […]

“No. When I was a girl, I wanted to be a pirate.”

May 20, 2015 by faintingviolet 12 Comments

As has become my tradition in reviewing Courtney Milan’s Brother Sinister books I was on the lookout for the trope that Ms. Milan had turned on its head. In The Duchess War the male protagonist shows the insecurities which would typically be portrayed by the female protagonist. In The Heiress Effect the ‘damsels in distress’ save themselves. And in The Countess Conspiracy the gentleman at the center of the story works to move forward the career aspirations of his lady love. All of these are […]

Oh, so that’s a puppy cannon.

First: I really liked this book. Second: I’m really disappointed I didn’t five star love it. Third: I invented a word to describe my disappointment. That word is ‘swooners,’ and it is to be used in the context of things that make you swoon (obv). As in, unfortunately as much I as I liked this book, it didn’t hit me in my swooners. I’m not exactly sure what part of the body the swooners are in . . . maybe the back of the throat? […]

You can never go wrong with puppy cannons.

October 22, 2014 by scootsa1000 11 Comments

When school started in September, I told myself that now that I had a little bit of free time, I was going to catch up on several things that the Cannonball community had recommended: 1. Watching the Lizzie Bennet Diaries on YouTube. 2. Reading a few books by Courtney Milan. There were simply too many 5-star reviews for me to ignore. This was a bandwagon that I needed to get on! 3. Attempt to read at least one of the Outlander books. Well, the kids have […]
