Even better the second time through.

December 30, 2017 by narfna Leave a Comment

Re-reading this was such a good idea. I didn’t re-read Way of Kings before I read this in 2014, and that was probably a mistake. I picked up a lot of detail on this read that I didn’t the first time because #1 was so fresh in my mind. Also, it turns out I had forgotten nearly everything that happens in this book. Like, it was just gone, like I was reading the book for the first time again (and how many times have I loved a […]

I can’t emphasize enough how good this book and this series are.

So I deleted my original review of this book on Goodreads (but not on CBR) because I’ve never been happy with it. I never felt like it fully conveyed what I was trying to say. Heck, I’m not sure I even knew what it was that I wanted to say! I remember thinking this book was so dense and a little impenetrable, and now upon my first re-read, I’ve got none of that. This time around, I sunk right into this world like it was […]

This is a really long book, you guys

We primarily follow the story of three people in this book, with occasional points of view from others to further shed light on goings on. The first (and in my opinion, most interesting) of our protagonists is Kaladin Stormblessed, a surgeon’s son, turned army spearman turned slave. After numerous escape attempts, he ends up at the long-running war on the Shattered Plains, a desolate landscape made up of numerous rocky plateaus, requiring the fighting armies to have bridges to get across the chasms. Kaladin becomes […]

1,088 pages of AWESOME.

I don’t know how I could respond to this with anything less than five stars. I feel like I’ve just emerged from a hurricane or something (a fitting image, in the circumstances). I’ve decided not to worry too much about the content of this review. I could never fully convey the experience of reading this book, or the way it played on my emotions just as strongly as it played on the part of me that likes a mental challenge. Any attempt to explain the plot and how […]

Bright Lights, Many Words, Epic Fantasy

March 20, 2014 by Fofo 5 Comments

Target: Brandon Sanderson’s Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive #2) Profile: Epic Fantasy After a seemingly interminable four years of waiting for Brandon Sanderson to wash his hands of the Wheel of Time, it is finally time to return to the series that got me hooked on Sanderson in the first place, The Stormlight Archive.  The Way of Kings was a great novel that suffered most from being little more than a prologue to the rest of the series.  But now the real story can begin. Words of Radiance returns […]
