What comes next? (The Royal We #2)

The Heir Affair by Heather Cocks, Jessica Morgan

July 6, 2020 by J 1 Comment

I was over the freaking moon when I was approved to review an advance copy of The Heir Affair, Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan’s sequel to The Royal We. The Royal We is one of my very favorite books. When I was sick as a dog during my final pregnancy, I would read it until I reached the end and then flip back to the first page and start again. Though The Royal We felt complete, the door was left open for a sequel if […]

This one was a disappointment for me, but not the worst thing I’ve ever read.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

For the first third of this book, I was super into it. Then things started to get a little rocky. And then the ship breached on the rocks and got all leaky. Everything eventually righted itself and the imaginary sailors plugged up all the holes or whatever, but it was too late. My goodwill had already leaked out. I did not anticipate beating that metaphor to death when I started it, but I am not going to delete it because it accurately represents how I feel […]

Bloodstains, Ballgowns, Trashing a Hotel Room

The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

January 3, 2019 by Zirza 1 Comment

A friend of mine, whenever she encounters a problem, reminds herself of the Scale of Aleppo, wherein she compares her misfortunes to those of the people trapped in the vicious civil war in Syria. Husband running late? Barely a one on the Scale of Aleppo. Boss being an asshole? A three, at most. It’s an admirable strategy. It’s also something which, I feel, it would behoove the protagonists of The Royal We to try. Twenty year old Rebecca Porter, on a gap year from studying […]

The First Half is Great

December 9, 2017 by Emmalita 7 Comments

I wanted to like this more than I did. It gets three stars because the front half is amazing. I’ll talk about what I didn’t like in the spoiler section. I’ve had this on my kindle for a long time, but there was always something I wanted to read more. In response to Harry and Megan’s engagement, people started bringing this book up again and I thought it would be a fun, light read. An American, Rebecca “Bex” Porter decides to do a semester abroad […]

The Perfect Summertime Read

June 6, 2015 by yesknopemaybe Leave a Comment

The Royal We is basically well-written alternate universe William Wales and Kate Middleton fanfiction. (That’s not an insult by the way. I’m very much pro-fanfiction and side-eye people who make fun of it. Some of the most famous white dude classic fiction is totally fanfiction.) I’m sure the real Will and Kate story would be a snooze compared to the Nick and Bex story. American Rebecca Porter meets Nick and his quirky cast of friends while studying abroad at Oxford. Slowly they become friends and […]

“Whether Nick wanted to be or not, he was the sun, and everyone revolved around him…”

May 15, 2015 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

I love GFY and I am a fan of William and Kate, so this book was right up my alley. It’s cute and romantic and fun, probably more fun than the Spoiled books because I can pretend to be an adult while reading it. You can read my full review here.
