Romance has been a great salve for the general pandemic malaise. I’ve been loving own voices books featuring Black protagonists finding love, even when it was absolutely the last thing on their minds. Almost exactly a year ago I read Jasmine Guillory’s debut The Wedding Date. It was charming, had great characters, a plot with meat on its bones, and sexy bassline. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was pretty similar to her first one, so if you liked that one, you will probably like this one, too. I actually think I liked this one more. They both feature unlikely pairings of people who grow to know one another, the central conflict is emotional and internal rather than forced and coming from outside, and feature a fantastic amount of food.
