Are there any Liane Moriarty holdouts here?

May 14, 2017 by Blingle Bells 1 Comment

I know that CBR participants are pretty fond of Liane Moriarty in general, but is anyone here still not sure if she’s for them? Let me help you. Do you like… Books with an ensemble cast where each character is more nuanced and developed than most books with a single protagonist? Books with multiple subplots, all absolutely engrossing, that are tied up so satisfyingly at the end, one by one, that it’s like popping bubble wrap, but are almost never too tidy? Adorable Australian lingo? […]

Australian mysteries that weren’t all that mysterious

May 19, 2016 by Beth Ellen Leave a Comment

Last year I delved into the library of Liane Moriarty. Big Little Lies was fantastic and The Husband’s Secret was solid. I never could finish The Hypnotist’s Love Story so her books kind of fell to the back burner. Enter a 2 for 1 audible sale, and a lot of menial work tasks that are best done with headphones. The Last Anniversary is the story of Scribbly Gum Island and its residents. There’s Sophie Honeywell who takes up residence after being mysteriously left “Aunt” Connie’s […]

Looking for Love, Looking for Answers, Looking for Peace

January 15, 2016 by Melina Leave a Comment

I think the second book I read last year for my very first CBR was Big Little Lies and with that, I fell in love with Liane Moriarty…for the most part (I still have two books to read of hers).  I loved both Big Little Lies and What Alice Forgot so much. I liked Her Husband’s Secret but didn’t love it because I didn’t really connect with the characters and the “secret” was apparent from the beginning (in my opinion). I think what Moriarty does […]

More Moriarty Mysteries

August 17, 2015 by Caitlin_D Leave a Comment

And now I’m done with Liane Moriarty’s entire catalog of books. The Last Anniversary is similar to most of Moriarty’s books; there is a mystery that ties a group of people together and is pieced together through various points of view. In this case we have the mystery of the Munro baby; Alice & Jack Munro abandoned their house and child in 1932, the infant was found by Rose and Connie Doughty who raise the child and capitalize on the mystery for the next 73 […]

Another page turner from Liane Moriarty.

August 5, 2015 by scootsa1000 Leave a Comment

After I finished tearing through Big Little Lies a few months ago, my friend Amy told me that she had just done the same, and now couldn’t stop reading all of Liane Moriarty’s back catalog. Armed with her suggestions re: which ones were good and which ones not-so-great, I bought a bunch of them on Kindle and took off on my vacation. The first one I uploaded was The Last Anniversary, which is one of her first novels. Adorable Sophie is nearing forty, and starting to panic because […]

The Last Anniversary

December 29, 2014 by competitivenonfiction Leave a Comment

The Last Anniversary was my last stop on the Lianne Moriarty tour. It was yet another interesting and different story, though I didn’t love it as much as theHypnotist’s Love Story.* The story focuses on Sophie Honeywell, a single woman in her late thirties feeling the full weight of her biological clock. Sophie is known for being a great friend, always willing to entertain her couple friends with her single girl exploits, and up for whatever romantic adventure she encounters. Still, despite her rich social life, Sophie […]
