This was book #2 of yesterday’s “needing some light reading while sick” double header. I picked this up based on CBR reviews because so many of you loved it. Lesson learned: y’all know what you’re talking about. This was a perfect sickday book (except for how late I stayed up to finish it). Lucy and Josh are workplace rivals, both administrative assistants to publishing house CEOs, thrown into the same office after a company merger. The loathe each other, but of course all is not […]
Here to rave about CBR8’s favorite romance
So many people raving about one book can’t be wrong so I rented this as soon as possible from the library and immediately fell head over heels. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes (see Much Ado About Nothing, Pride and Prejudice, and North and South). There’s something so incredibly satisfying about hate turning to love. The Hating Game did not disappoint. Lucy and Josh work as assistants to the co-CEOs of a publishing house called Bexley & Gamin. The publishing house used […]
Turns out, we all do need a little romance in our lives
The most books I had ever read in a year, prior to 2016, was about 35 – back when I was in high school and had no social life to speak of. I set a goal this year of 52, thinking that perfectly within reach considering my output last year (29). Well, here I am writing my 104th review. 104, you guys. I’ve written over 52,000 words describing my reading exploits this year – and that is neither an exaggeration nor an estimate. This is […]
Best Kissing Book of the Year and a Cannonball?!
The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
Here in Kissing Book Corner there’s one book we’ve all been reading and (mostly) heaping praise on. Now it’s my turn to review The Hating Game and I am convinced it is going to be the one of the, if not the best romance I read all year – though I welcome competition – and I have already added it to the “Classics” section on my Romance Recommendations Quick List. The writing is fantastically witty and fresh, the love story sweet, and I have already […]
Weirdos in Love, or What I Read While my Country was Shooting Itself in the Heart
At 1:30 Wednesday morning, my dog woke me up so he could steal my pillow. Since I was awake, I looked at the election results. In sadness and fear, I switched over to my Kindle app and brought up the book I’ve been saving until after I finish 3 partially written reviews. Screw rewards, I needed an immediate escape. The Hating Game was a wonderful life pod. Almost perfect. It’s major fault is that it has not permanently delivered me to a place where a man […]
This book is book crack.
I fell in love with this book within, like, five minutes of starting it. I had zero problems with it, and I went basically full cartoon heart-eyes* the entire time I was reading it. So, you know, keep that in mind for the rest of this review. Critical thinking skills not getting much use here from me. *Or, because I’m watching Steven Universe for the first time right now, we might also say I went full star-eyes. I’m halfway through season one right now and already […]
