CBR Diversions – Literary Couples That Make You Swoon

February 11, 2021 by teresaelectro 48 Comments

With Valentine’s Day swiftly approaching, romance is in the air. To complement our featured romance book reviews, this week’s CBR Diversion celebrates our favorite literary couples. Who makes you swoon? I know many of you are historical romance fans who love a reformed rake who meets his match. Daphne and Simon have become quite popular in the zeitgeist after the Netflix adaption of Julia Quinn’s The Duke and I premiered. Personally, I’m a sucker for the slow burn courtship in urban fantasy series. In the […]

“And if you say that’s because you lot barged into her home like a herd of mentally deficient sheep, I’m disowning all three of you.” (CBR12 Bingo)

The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn

July 28, 2020 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

Continuing down the road of comfort reading I’ve decided to do some rereading of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series. I first read the books in 2015 and loved them then, and I’m happy to report that after my latest reading of The Duke and I, the first book in the series,  that I’m just as pleased now as I was then. Even better, there’s a Netflix adaptation of the series on the way – season one finished filming before COVID shutdown most television production but we […]

Gotta love a fake engagement plot.

After I mentioned that my library didn’t have this book, the lovely Malin sent it to me, along with books 2-4 in the series. I tried a little bit to resist reading this because I have so many other books I should be reading, but I made it barely to noon the next day before I caved. Basically, this book was fun. Malin is the best. The Duke and I is the first book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons series, which follows the immense Bridgerton clan, […]

Revisiting one of the first historical romances I read to rediscover my love of the genre

February 21, 2016 by Malin 4 Comments

Miss Daphne Bridgerton is one of the oversized Bridgerton brood (there are eight of them in total). She is the eldest daughter and her mother despairs that she isn’t really attracting promising suitors. Not that it’s all that easy with three overprotective elder brothers who can scare off anyone but the staunchest at heart, or the fact that most male members of the ton regard her as a very good sport, but certainly not an exciting marriage prospect. So when she runs into her brother […]

This book is easily 4.5 stars. Sometimes the best historical romances read like historical fiction right up until the leads fall believably and irrefutably in love. Then it just gets better. This is very much one of those books and because of it I’ll be reading the rest of the Bridgerton books. It was so nice to read about characters that were meant for each other, and not in the sickeningly sweet, star crossed lovers’ sort of way. Our two protagonists, Simon and Daphne, were […]
