“There isn’t much time for a plan. This is more of a hunch with scaffolding.”

The Alloy of Law (Mistborn, #4; Wax and Wayne, #1) by Brandon Sanderson

October 31, 2021 by narfna Leave a Comment

I basically just want to jump right into books two and three immediately but I will wait. Lowering this half a star this time around in acknowledgement that the next two take what’s good here and make it even better. I obviously hadn’t read those yet when I read this the first time! And I don’t want to subtract a whole star from this, because I just love this world and characters so much. In retrospect, I can’t imagine this series not going any further, […]

Happiness is a warm gun

July 5, 2018 by Shibuyama 4 Comments

The last time I reviewed a Brandon Sanderson book, I complained of Sanderson fatigue, the review got featured, and several more people complained about it with me. So it is a bit sheepishly that I confess I not only went back to him but that I read the entire second Mistborn series minus the one book that hasn’t been published yet. And I enjoyed them immensely. In fact, for someone like me who still had fond memories of earlier Cosmere experiences, The Alloy of Law, […]

Dammit, Brandon Sanderson, write a bad book once in a while!

February 10, 2016 by narfna 15 Comments

Holy shitsticks, this was fun. I’m sure Brandon Sanderson won’t be the last person to play around with evolving his/her fantasy world into some imagined future, but he was the first to do it, and that’s really something. This book actually happened sort of by accident. He was always planning on taking the world of the Mistborn trilogy (called Scadrial) and moving it forward to do two more trilogies, one set in a 1980s equivalent world, and a space opera where Allomancy (magic) exists side […]

Fun with guns and metal-based superpowers

December 15, 2015 by Malin 1 Comment

As of me posting this, the book is currently on sale for $2.99 on Kindle – so if you think it sounds interesting, now might be a time to try it. In helping me establish some of the background for the plot of this book, here is the Goodreads summary: In the three hundred years since the events of the Mistborn trilogy, science and technology have marched on. Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads, electric lighting, and even the first steel-framed […]
