Another romance hero with PTSD

October 5, 2016 by Malin Leave a Comment

Miss Cecily Hale is at a country house with a number of friends, and they are trying to keep themselves entertained with stories and diversions. Cecily really wants nothing more than to catch the attention of Luke Trenton, Viscount Merritt, the man she has pined for since he kissed her four years ago, on the eve of going to war. The war is over, but it changed Luke irrevocably. His memories of Cecily kept him company on the battlefield, but he has returned from the […]

Okay, Tessa Dare finally got me.

August 7, 2016 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

The third book in the Castles Ever After series, When a Scot Ties the Knot (oof, the titles on these) hit all of my particular romance novel loves: Independent lady making her way in the world Marriage of Convenience plot Steamy sexy times Scotland Wounded Hero Historical setting Interesting, but not overtaking, side characters Comedy/quirkiness/whimsy in some regard. Those eight things in some order will almost guarantee a four star review from me if executed well, and the truly wonderful ones will get the full […]

Spindle–Not Cabot–Cove

July 4, 2016 by Orleanas Leave a Comment

Having read this title three months ago, I do remember enjoying it. Victor Bramwell, newly titled Earl of Rycliff, is a stubborn man but finds his match in Susanna, a woman way ahead of her time: She is an independent woman, and dare I say, a feminist (pun unintended). Together and apart, they are both fully fleshed characters. A Night to Surrender is a better than average romance with a cast of likable and intriguing supporting characters (particularly Corporal Thorne) whose stories I’m interested in knowing from […]

Suspension of Disbelief Works – Reformed Rake Duke for the Win

July 2, 2016 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

I have a slightly OCD reading rule: series must always be read in order. Reading as many romance novels as I do (rough estimate is 13 out of 43 so far this year), this has proven a useful rule since series tend to build on each other. Then, our very own crystalclear read and hilariously reviewed Any Duchess Will Do and I asked to borrow it, because I could, and ended up reading the fourth novel of the series before having read any of the […]

Tessa Dare Delivers Funny and Sexy

April 13, 2016 by faintingviolet 12 Comments

I knew from my previous outings with Ms. Dare that her Castles Ever After series is all about the quirky and fanciful. The conceit of these novels is that a generous benefactor, the Earl of Lynforth, has bequeathed a series of castles – not just properties – to his nieces and goddaughters, is in and of itself a bit kooky. Book two in the series introduces us to Miss Clio Whitmore, inheritor of Twill Castle. She has also been engaged to Piers Brandon, now Marquess […]

“You are a scheming, fiendish woman with entirely too much time at leisure.”

March 17, 2016 by crystalclear 6 Comments

After a long day, there’s nothing better than going home and absolutely devouring a romance novel in one sitting. Lucky for me, I had Tessa Dare’s Any Duchess Will Do sitting on top of my “to read” pile! This is a gem. There were a few times I had the giggles, and parts of it seemed fairly familiar… And unlike the last romance novel I read, there was a kidnapping this time! Said kidnapping occurs at the opening of the book. Griffin York, the Duke […]
