A silly tale of the end times

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

June 15, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Good Omens, The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch was my first foray into the mind of Terry Pratchett. It was my fourth read from Neil Gaiman. I know, I know, I need to read more Pratchett. Since I enjoyed this collaboration, I definitely will soon. The book follows two unlikely friends Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, who must stop the end of the world. They’ve known each other since the Garden of Eden. They kept in touch despite working for […]

June 14, 2019 by faintingviolet 8 Comments

The time has come, a table has become available at the Ritz, so let’s sit down and chat about Good Omens, both the television show and the book. First, some boilerplate: for those of you who might be joining in for #CannonBookClub for the first time (hello new friends!) all are welcome. The topics are numbered, and we ask that you refer to them below by that number to help people find the conversation topics they are looking for. If you are responding to someone else’s […]

Book Club Discussion Post: Good Omens

May 17, 2019 by faintingviolet 20 Comments

It is that time friends, our first #CannonBookClub of the year is officially underway. Good Omens is getting the television adaption treatment, but first it will get the Cannonballer experience – assuming we all survive the apocalypse of course. Ground rules remain the same as they always have. For those of you who might be joining in for #CannonBookClub for the first time (hello new friends!) all are welcome. The topics are numbered, and we ask that you refer to them below by that number […]

I had never heard of this book until CBR

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman

I picked up one of Neil Gaiman’s books, Norse Mythology,  at the airport over the summer. I loved it. So I was excited when CBR announced Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch  as a group read. There have been so many reviews that I think I can pass on the plot summary and skip to my thoughts. I have to say, this book was by turns wonderful and just head-scratching. I love the relationship between Crowley and Aziraphale- a sort of supernatural […]

“The future came and went in the mildly discouraging way that futures do.”

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman

I often avoid reviewing a Book Club book before our discussion to save what I have to say until the conversation, or because I’m not sure what I want to say and am hoping the discussion will help clarify it for me. When I do review ahead of time I find myself leaving amorphous reviews without much substance, reviews that I look back on and think, but what did I really get out of that reading experience? I’m hoping not to fall into either camp […]

Thanks, Book Club!

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

So I’m giving this another go due to book club and the series coming out (which looks awesome!)  But there is a reason I didn’t read it until now. I bought the book a while ago (10 years ago?) and it was just hanging out in my TBR pile.  Then I started dating a guy, and he recommended that I read it. So dug it out and put it on top of the pile. Then we broke up. And I couldn’t seem to get past […]
