Impossible Woman

Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

June 15, 2019 by Carriejay Leave a Comment

In July 1979, Daisy Jones and The Six, a rock n roll band, were at the height of their success. Yet after a concert in the middle of the tour the band broke up, cancelling the rest of their dates. This book attempts to discover why that happened, taking us back to the days before the band had made it, when Daisy Jones and the band known as The Six were separate entities. Told more like an extended article or oral history, the book allows […]

Daisy Jones & The Six – Best. Audiobook Everrrrr.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A number of folks at my work suggested this book, and specifically said it was great on audio and since my commute is grossss (hour or hour 15 one way) I’m always on the look for not just any audiobook, but one that makes my time on the road worth it. In addition, it’s a Reese Witherspoon book club pick and I’ve been delighted by her choices that I’ve read so far: see also The Library Book, Eleanor Oliphant is perfectly fine. This was a […]

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid Finished on May 2, took 9 days to read 3 stars on Goodreads Genre: Fiction Rating 2/3 Fiction  There were so many reasons why I was excited to read Daisy Jones & the Six. Several of my favorite blogs, podcasts, and friends recommended this book. I loved the author’s earlier novel The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. And most notably, earlier this year Daisy Jones got the ultimate bump when it got picked by Reese Witherspoon’s […]

Love and pride don’t mix.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I first saw Daisy Jones & The Six recommended by Elaine Lui of LaineyGossip a few months ago. I’ve picked up several books from Lainey’s recommendations and enjoyed most of them. Daisy Jones & The Six was no exception. Daisy Jones & The Six was one of those books I found myself mentally casting as I was reading it. The supporting cast came together in my head pretty quickly but the leads were a bit harder. Daisy and Billy ended up as sort of amalgamations […]

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else’s muse. I am not a muse. I am the somebody. End of fucking story.”

Daisy Jones and the Six is another recent Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, and so far, my track record has been pretty decent with Reese’s picks. Imagine if all of the members of Fleetwood Mac – as well as their producers, spouses, accountants, and friends — sat down and talked to a journalist, providing an oral history of everything that had ever happened to them. Imagine the amount of drugs and sex and backstabbing and inter-band politics that would be mixed in with brilliant songwriting […]

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is a novel in VH1 Behind the Music format. It’s posed as a behind the scenes tell all of a famous, if ethereal rock band from the mid to late 70s. In the beginning, the band is a kind Allman Brothers band type deal, then it morphs into a kind of Fleetwood Mac type deal with the addition of the beautiful, damaged, and beautifully damaged Daisy Jones, who herself feels like an amalgam of Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, Marianne Faithful, Dusty Springfield, etc etc […]
