Hold me closer Tiny Dancer

Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

February 9, 2020 by Wanderlustful Leave a Comment

Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel chronicles the rise of a ‘70s rock band, including all the things you’d expect- drugs, booze, sex, groupies, band in-fighting, etc.  Jenkins Reid starts by tracing the rise of the two band components as their own entities- Daisy Jones, an irresistible pop ingénue with a drug habit and an urge to write her own songs; and The Six, a rust-belt rock band helmed by a charismatic leading man trying to hold his life and his band together amidst his own spiraling […]

Daisy Jones & The Six: A Novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid

January 12, 2020 by Halbs 2 Comments

I know I’m late to the game on this one and there’s nothing left to add, reviewwise. The book is entertaining and overflowing with life. It’s gloriously human. It’s going to be a 12-part limited series in the next year or so. We all know and we all love it. Nonetheless, I feel the need to hold up my lighter as Graham Dunne strums the intro chords and Daisy saunters up the mic and Karen Karen hits those atmospheric keys. Also, Warren is there! Oh, […]

An oral history of a fictional 1970s rock band. Do the audio if you can.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This made for an enjoyable week of audiobook listening. It was highly entertaining, even if I often found the characters frustrating. I think this is one of the few times where, if you have the capability (library, Audible or other audiobook subscriptions) and like audiobooks, then do the audiobook. The audio format really enhances the experience. If you’re not aware, Daisy Jones & The Six is an oral history of a fictional 1970s rock band, and the story is done entirely in interviews from the former band […]

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Evidence of the Affair by Taylor Jenkins Reid

December 10, 2019 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

This is the second to most recent Taylor Jenkins Reid novel and I think it completes my reading (well, listening) through all her books. This is the most ambitious of the books and has one of the most impactful moments I’ve found in her writing, to the point where I actually said “Holy shit!” and was pleased by how invested I felt with it. It also had a kind of crushing little ending note too. The premise: Monique Grant has been contacted by her job […]

How can I find him and save him?

Forever Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid

December 5, 2019 by vel veeter Leave a Comment

If I were a man in a Taylor Jenkins Reid novel and I realized this, I would RUN, because she is gunning for husbands and would-be husbands. This is my second Reid “widow” novel, and I should have realized going in that’s where we were headed based on the title, but when the husband gets on his bike in the opening scene, I knew he was about to get it. So in the novel, we have a recently married couple and by recently married I […]

4.5 Stars for Audio and 3 Stars for Actual Story

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

November 26, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So, I have to say that all in all, I really enjoyed “Daisy Jones & The Six.” I am so glad many of my friends suggested I listen to this via an audiobook. I can definitely understand why many readers DNFed this book though. The interview style format would be a much to try to read. Same reason I gave up trying to read “War World Z” that’s another book you have to experience by audio. The voice actors in this one killed it, and […]
