It’s like reading a different series entirely

Chainsaw Man Vol. 12 by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Chainsaw Man Vol. 13 by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Chainsaw Man Vol. 14 by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Although I’ve been keeping up to date with Chainsaw Man‘s second arc via the Shonen Jump app, I’ve also been making sure to keep my Chainsaw Man shelf growing with each new physical release. Still, it wasn’t until last night that I decided to sit down and re-read those volumes in that form. I’d been meaning to, knowing from my time with She-Hulk that following any comic/manga issue by issue is an entirely different experience, and for me usually one that drags down the material […]

“Drawing is completely useless…”

Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto

I re-read this today while I was organizing my bookcases and considering whether or not to keep it. After the re-read, I’ve decided it can remain, so it’s been granted a stay of execution for now. Look Back is a one-volume manga about the friendship and working relationship of Fujino and Kyomoto. The two women meet in grade school, during which they both do comic strips for the school newspaper. Kyomoto is a shut-in and Fujino is sent to bring her her middle school diploma. […]

I’m late to the game with these reviews, plus I missed the best and worst of the year talks, but I don’t wanna falsely claim these as 2023 reads next year, so here goes. I’ve done very little in the way of reading these last two months of the year, pretty much keeping to my usual comfort picks, as I’m sure you can tell. Getting married, working 50 hours a week for a little while, and having two major holidays, will do that to you, […]

I’m impatient…

Chainsaw Man, Vol. 12 by Tatsuki Fujimoto

October 25, 2022 by Travis_J_Smith Leave a Comment

I saw on Viz that new chapters had been releasing and looked into when a new volume was due out. Turns out Volume 12 was already released. Where? Hell if I know. I couldn’t find it. But thankfully Viz, for only $1.99/mo., lets you read seemingly all that you want in their manga library, and that includes those Chainsaw Man chapters. So, since I refuse to wait for the physical copy to read it, I read it on my phone. Not the best way to read […]

It wasn’t until I read all of these one-shots separately that I realized a two volume collection (pictured above) was due out in the US. That probably would’ve beaten reading fan translations on sketchy free manga sites, which is what I wound up having to resort to. Oh well. Having now read them all, I don’t know that I necessarily would be rushing to buy the collection. That’s not to say there isn’t some quality content here, just that most of it feels like a […]

I might be on a bit of a manga kick… (oh, and double cannonball)

One-Punch Man, Volume 1 by One

Look Back by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Goodbye, Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto

Assassination Classroom, Volume 1 by Yusei Matsui

It might have something to do with me finding some, ahem, alternative means to reading them. What? I’ve tried the local library, but they’re useless. I wish there was some sort of online rental alternative. Maybe your library has some comics. If you’re super lucky, there’s some manga included in that collection. But good luck finding anything aside from like one copy of the most well-known properties. Apparently, for example, there’s only one copy of One-Punch Man, Volume 1, for example, hence why I had been waiting for  […]
