Big time catch up post

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Clementine: The Life of Mrs. Winston Churchill by Sonia Purnell

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong

The Deep by Rivers Solomon

I am WAY behind. I have a stand-alone review planned for my favorite book of the year and another group review for a series on the way but I needed to knock these out and get my count down a bit. How the gracious did I get so backlogged. Let’s take these one-by-one because they really don’t have a whole lot in common. Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert Reading Red, White & Royal Blue earlier this year turned me around a bit on […]

Aliens learning how to be human?

Work for It by Talia Hibbert

February 22, 2020 by Nart Leave a Comment

Yes, it’s another Hibbert. Look, I put a bunch on hold at the library a few months ago and they all came off the list at the same time, giving me 3 weeks to read them all before they go to the next person. This is actually one of her more popular novels, which is probably the only reason I picked it up. I have weird, unsettled feelings about being a mostly straight woman reading a romance about two gay men written by another woman. […]

“Bravery wasn’t an identity, so much as a choice.”

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

I cannot with this book. I cannot with this author. It’s a problem I’m going to have to work through since any time I get off the wait list for one of her books I basically become a non-entity till I’m done and I regularly have to resist the urge to email Ms. Hibbert to inform her that we are basically soul mates because that seems a little intense coming from a stranger. My preferred review for this book would just be various noises, but […]

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Three romances to start off my reviews for the year. I ended 2019 with at least ten books I never got around to writing up, so I am going to try to keep on top of it better this year. Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: 5/5 I don’t know that I have much to add about this book that hasn’t been said by other Cannonballers. The adjective that repeatedly comes to mind for this book is ‘fizzy’. Each of the books in […]

Travel the World with Nothing But Hand Luggage

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

January 14, 2020 by Jenny S Leave a Comment

This was a perfect beach read even though it was a bit out of my wheelhouse.  I don’t read a lot of romance though CBR-ers have steered me to a couple of books I’ve enjoyed (anything by Lucy Parker for instance).  I don’t mind a bit of sex but I don’t want the plot to be just an excuse to write sex scenes; I want characters and sexy bits to be somewhat balanced but that’s just me. The basic plot is this.  After a near […]

A hero on the asexual spectrum is an interesting and cool choice for a romance

That Kind of Guy by Talia Hibbert

January 7, 2020 by Nart 6 Comments

Hibbert is one of my favourite authors. If you haven’t read anything by her, stop reading this and pick up literally any of her books. She writes characters and stories that celebrate (not aknowledge or tolerate) variety of race, gender, sexuality, ability and neuro-diversity. She doesn’t trap her characters in the cage of their diversity badges but she also doesn’t underplay their importance. It’s a very fine line and she walks it elegantly. They get to be actual, fully formed human beings. Her books are funny, witty, smart, […]
