This kid’s worse than a villain

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

November 11, 2024 by genericwhitegirl 3 Comments

I’m a little embarrased to admit that I’d never read a Judy Blume book. I know Superfudge and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret were big hits when I was growing up. But I never picked them up, despite the fact I read a lot at that age. And now, I have a son in 4th grade. And he was reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. So I decided to read it too. And here’s my takeaway: Fudge is a terrible human being. […]

Young at Heart with Judy Blume

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

December 29, 2021 by teresaelectro 1 Comment

Reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume was a walk down memory. I read this for our Cannon Book Club Young at Heart meeting in April since it was the shortest! Alas, it took me a ridiculously long time to listen to the audiobook. I made the mistake of listening in bed when tired from work. I went right to sleep! Tales kicked off this popular book series about Peter and his little brother Fudge. Peter wants to hang out with his friends and have […]

The One Where I Review All the Young at Heart Book Club Picks, Finally.

Ghost Squad by Claribel Ortega

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

I read these books all together for our Young at Heart book club so it only feels right to review them all together. Our goal for book club was to find book selections that reminded us of childhood in order to (hopefully) inspire a bit of lighthearted nostalgia. For the most part, these books succeeded on that metric for me. Ghost Squad – 4 stars Up first is Claribel Ortega’s Ghost Squad. I often have trouble sinking into Middle Grades books – it is where […]

A Scholastic Book Fair Staple – with reason

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume

May 14, 2021 by katie71483 Leave a Comment

I first read Judy Blume’s childhood classic Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing back in third grade when my mom volunteered at the Scholastic Book Fair and picked up a Judy Blume boxed set for me at the recommendation of the school librarian. The set included Tales, Superfudge, Blubber,* and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Upon reflection, it was kind of a peculiar combination of books – two mostly comic, if a tad bittersweet, takes on growing up with a younger sibling that […]
