Think Small

Small World by Tabitha King

April 18, 2024 by Caesar's Wife Leave a Comment

While lurking in the r/StephenKing subreddit (as many Constant Readers do), an interesting post caught my eye, asking if anyone had read the novel Small World by King’s wife, Tabitha. Intrigued, I looked further and found that the book was apparently a pulpy and entertaining entry in the ‘body horror’ genre, with a focus on miniaturization. Fun! What follows is a messy, poorly characterized novel based on an intriguing premise and not much else. What if, somehow, the technology of miniaturization not only existed, but […]

“Nobody was really surprised when it happened, not really, not on the subconscious level where savage things grow.”

Carrie by Stephen King

#CBR11Bingo — #bannedbooks The first time I read this book was the summer before I went into 8th grade. A friend at camp had her mom’s copy of The Shining, which we all read, and became obsessed with. The next time I went to the library, I headed right over to the Adult “K” section, and found a paperback of Carrie, sitting along with Firestarter, ‘Salem’s Lot, The Cycle of the Werewolf, Night Shift, and a few other King titles. I read them all that […]

This ain’t no party. This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no fooling around.

I am ashamed to admit, that although I have read pretty much every single word ever published by Stephen King, and most of Joe Hill, and even some of Owen King, I had honestly never even considered reading Tabitha King. It wasn’t until PattyKates wrote a review of One on One back in 2015 that I ever really even thought about reading Tabitha King. That review convinced me to order a used paperback copy, which then sat on my TBR shelf until last weekend. I […]

Oh, yeah, dirtbag, no, she doesn’t know what she’s missin’

Did you know that Stephen King has a wife who is herself an extremely talented author? Well, he does, and Tabitha King has written one of my all-time favorite books that isn’t by Diana Gabaldon. Definitely on my top five list, One on One is the story of Sam Styles, small town high school basketball god, genial giant, stutterer, all around good kid, and listener of terrible music, and Deanie Gauthier, aka the Mutant. Deanie is also a basketball star, but is better known for her […]
