All you need is faith?

Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher

Swordheart by T. Kingfisher

I am admitting that while i can absolutely read 50 plus books in a year, writing them up is apparently a challenge. I enjoy T. Kingfisher books generally – they meet a very real need for cozy fantasy with self aware flawed characters. Since the Clocktaur wars duology (hopefully i did write about that?) she has set a number of stories in that world. It is a world of city-states, gods and magic. Paladins Faith Paladin’s Faith is the fourth book in the series, which […]

don’t understand how I don’t already have a review for this but okay

Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher

If you’re anything like me and already several books deep into The Saint of Steel and the entire world of the White Rat, you’re not here to decide whether or not to read this book—you’re here to bemoan the wait for the next one. This book offers all the reasons we’ve grown to love this world: precious paladins are once again utterly precious, all of them “good boys” (even the women) (good girls are a different breed). They’re tough but tender, deeply loyal, and need to be […]

When a Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher

November 7, 2024 by Malin 2 Comments

4.5 stars CBR16 Bingo: Dun Dun (From pretty much the first chapter, where Cordelia is “made obedient” there is a creeping sense of dread all the way through this novel) Cordelia knows her mother isn’t like other mothers. Other mothers can’t take over your limbs and puppet you, or force you to stay still and motionless for hours or days on end. Other mothers permit doors that can be closed in the house and let their daughters have friends. Other mothers don’t have a magical […]

Keep thinking that I’m just a silly old woman. It will make it easier for me to do whatever I’m going to do to stop you

A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher

November 6, 2024 by LittlePlat 3 Comments

I’m going to confess, I know I’m in for a good time if I pick up a fantasy novel and the protagonist is an older lady with a bit of life experience under the belt. Someone who’s seen some things. One of the very best examples of this is the main character from A Paladin of Souls (Although giving her name might spoil other books in the series), several protagonists in the Divine Cities series, and the of course, T. Kingfisher has made this a […]

“The problem with family is that they know where all the levers are that make you move. They’re usually the ones who installed the levers in the first place.”

A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher

October 25, 2024 by cheerbrarian Leave a Comment

I picked this book up for a  read along with a few friends and it’s a great one for the season: one part silly, one part spooky, one part WAIT WHAT?! The general consensus from the group was that we liked it, but maybe didn’t love it and that it was a bit of a slow build, some felt it was too slow, I was along for the ride. Someone who had read other Kingfisher novels was surprised at how differernt it was in tone, […]

a re-read before the fourth book was coming out later in the year

Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher

October 17, 2024 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

these books are like Tamora Pierce, but for adults (i.e., starring adults, with adult scenes–as an adult who still reads Tamora Pierce novels and considers the Circle of Magic series one of her favorites). It’s something of the vibe that T. Kingfisher has going on throughout her books–knights and magic, of course, but also a homey sort of rhythm. There’s real Magic, of course, impressive and with big swords and horses and stuff, but there’s also small magics that are expressed in everyday actions. Everything moves […]
