The Twisted Ones

The Twisted Ones by T. Kingfisher

August 29, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I did not think it was humanly possible for me to not love something by T. Kingfisher, but here it is. This got recommended to me by a few people after I loved “What Moves the Dead.” I can honestly say I was not feeling this one. It dragged so much. Took me a week plus to finish it because it was just not holding my interest. I gave up understanding anything and just adored Foxy, Skip, and Tomas though. “The Twisted Ones” follows a […]

Tamora Pierce, but with Adult Bits

Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher

August 25, 2022 by wicherwill 2 Comments

These books are like, Tamora Pierce for adults. << the first review-like sentence I had written in ages, which I just had to note because it had been on the tip of my tongue through all the previous Universe of the White Rat books just why I liked these… So, to whit: these books are like Tamora Pierce, but for adults (i.e., starring adults, with adult scenes–as an adult who still reads Tamora Pierce novels and considers the Circle of Magic series one of her favorites). […]

finally finally reading this! can’t even remember who recommended it

Swordheart by T. Kingfisher

August 23, 2022 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

And finally, one of my white whale books falls! This book has been hanging around my Kindle for literal eons (sort of like a knight trapped in a sword, if we were being cute). So, the plot. Halla is being trapped in what is rightly her house after the death of her great-uncle, whom she cared for out of the goodness of her own heart because she is a good person and her great-uncle’s family is not. She’s being pressured to give up the inheritance, […]

a very quick read (probably could have been one book, not that I’m complaining)

The Wonder Engine by T. Kingfisher

August 22, 2022 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

Biggest takeaway is that you should definitely have this second booked queued up when you read the first in this series. Unlike some of her later work in this world that are comprised of standalone books with character cameos, the Clocktaur books are directly related and need to be read as such. And so we continue with our merry band of thieves/possessed former knights/misogynist scholars. As a reminder, they’ve been tasked with figuring out how to stop the armies of unstoppable Clocktaurs being built by […]

this one threw me down the rabbit hole

Clockwork Boys by T. Kingfisher

August 22, 2022 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

T. Kingfisher’s books have been floating in and out of my TBR list for ages now. I have had a copy of Swordheart on my Kindle for ages now, but for some reason I never felt the urge to actually pick it up (virtually speaking, that is) and start reading it, even though it appears to be that rare unicorn–a standalone fantasy book. As it were, Swordheart isn’t really a standalone book, in so much as it takes place in the same universe as a number of her other […]

Book Cover The Seventh Bride.

“I’ve gone mad. The hedgehog was probably a warning sign. The saints only know what I’ve really got in my pocket.”

The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher

Cannonball introduced me to T. Kingfisher, and I introduced my mom, and now she is obsessed. She’s read everything her interlibrary loan can get her, and now she’s ordering them off the internet. I stole this one from her while I was visiting this month before she’s even had a chance to read it! It’s absolutely marvelous. I couldn’t help but compare Rhea to Tiffany Aching, as she’s a teenage girl dumped into magical mayhem against her will, but this feels a bit darker. Though […]
