System Collapse by Martha Wells

System Collapse by Martha Wells

August 19, 2025 by Classic Leave a Comment

“System Collapse” picks right up with the events from “Network Effect” and Murderbot, the ART crew, and others, working together to try to figure out how to keep the Barish-Estranza corporation from trying to “own” the planet and the colonists that have been living there. This was not a bad book by any stretch, but to me there was way too much going on that I just after a while stopped trying to track what was happening to who and why. The first portion of […]

Murderbot is not OK but the reason why is [redacted]

System Collapse by Martha Wells

November 4, 2024 by Malin Leave a Comment

CBR16 Bingo: Rage (The Murderbot Diaries are all the rage all over the bookish internet, in addition, there’s a lot of rage-inducing behaviour from the evil corporation in the book) Spoiler warning! This is book 7 in the series, and absolutely not the place to start reading. This book will not make as much sense if it’s your first encounter with Murderbot. You should have read at least All Systems Red, Artificial Condition and the previous novel, Network Effect to have the requisite backstory for […]

Murderbot deals with a lot of (redacted) and more thwarting evil big business

System Collapse by Martha Wells

Bingo 23: Tech Sci-fi general is a safe option for this box, and I just so happen to have had Murderbot Diaries #6 on my TBR shelf. System Collapse is definitely tech-relevant, but only if you’re pretty current with previous episodes of the series. There’s two big mysteries in this volume: can Murdebot and its humans save some divided groups of planetary colonists from an evil corporation that wants to trick them into slavery, and 2) what’s up with Murdebot and {redacted}? The {redacted} thing […]

Murderbot, why are you like this

System Collapse by Martha Wells

March 31, 2024 by LittlePlat 1 Comment

I love Murderbot. For someone who does not consider themselves a person, our SecUnit is still very relatable. When things get stressful, they love to retreat and re-watch their favourite TV shows. When I find everything getting a bit stressful, I retreat and read Murderbot. We’re not so different, really. System Collapse is the seventh book in the series and it directly follows the events of Network Effect—so the following review is going to be a bit spoiler-y by nature. When we were last with […]

System Collapse: The Murderbot Diaries Book 7 by Martha Wells

January 21, 2024 by ElCicco 1 Comment

I read all the previous Murderbot stories at the beginning of CBR14 (reviews here, here and here), and while the details of those novels were perhaps a little fuzzy for me when I started this latest Murderbot, I was quickly up to speed and enjoying the continuing saga of everyone’s favorite misanthropic human-robot hybrid. As usual I zipped through this and loved it for its snarky humor and for its development of Murderbot’s relationships with the humans it works for and the artificial intelligence it […]

It would technically be fiction, but the kind of fiction that was true in all the ways that mattered.

SecUnit is not ok. I am also not ok. System Collapse, the seventh in the Murderbot Diaries series is stressful. Amazing, but stressful as heck. You cannot read System Collapse if you haven’t read Network Effect. The action picks up not long after Network Effect ends. ART is still repairing its worm hole drive, the Preservation crew and the University crew are working together to create a charter that will give the colonists (formerly known as the Targets) control over their planet and their future. […]
